Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has an update on the refurbishment of the new business suites for VH-EBG & EBL, which was apparently delayed last year while Qantas determines what to do with these aircraft, since their lease is close to expiring.
I've noticed that QF-5/6 SIN to SYD is using the older aircraft on most days, and I'd prefer to change my flights to one with a better chance of getting the new business suite if this won't be upgraded by end of April.

Is anyone aware of Qantas' plans on the final two A330s yet to be upgraded.

Basically nothing is certain, and only rumours
At the HY results QF said the 330 refurb was complete on 26 aircraft (albeit they had originally said 28 when the program was announced).

For now these aircraft are almost exclusively on QF107/108 SYD-PEK,
And in between that pattern sometimes operating QF5/6 SYD-SIN, and sometimes SYD-MEL

If flying SYD-SIN, better to book QF81/82

Have a booking for November 2017 SIN-SYD on QF6. It is showing an international Mk1 angled setup, which I'm not over the moon about.
Has there been any decision yet on what they are doing with these planes. Not happy about spending full revenue J for those horrendous seats :(.
Maybe they could do a few SYD -SIN test runs on the Dreamliner in November ?!

That's a long time away. Firstly, even if the plane is going to be refurbed, it would still show the old seat map until it goes into the workshop. Secondly, even assuming it will be operated by an A330 (and not by any other types), chances are it would be swapped at least once between now and Nov. It's simply too early to tell what will happen in Nov.

In the last 7 days, 333s have operated on QF107/108 3 of 7 days.
Meanwhile EBG/EBL has operated SYD-SIN (QF5/6 on 5,7,9-Mar) SYD-HNL (QF3/4 on 4,5,6,8,10-Mar), SYD-HKG (QF117/118 on 12-Mar) and SYD-CGK (QF41/42 on 3-Mar) as well as a bunch of SYD-MEL-SYDs

The SYD-CGK run on the 3rd was a last minute change out due to a faulty a/c hence why it was 3 or 4 hours late. Not sure which a/c or what the problem was, but might explain a few things, eg flow on effects etc.

Have to agree with the mess part. Flying home tonight on QF36 in the last 6 weeks it's gone from new to old to new 332 and now looks like being a 333. i'm heading to Honolulu for easter and although it's suppose to be a 333 I'll believe it when i'm actually on it :)

So why is it shown on the seat map?

It's only the 300's that are missing those seats.

All the 200's have them.

On non refurbed 200's the front Y cabin has seats 23 to 35 and rear cabin starts at 45.

On refurbed 200's the front Y cabin has seats 23 to 39 and rear cabin starts at 44.

Qantas stated in the full year results announcement that the 330 reconfig program was complete at 26 aircraft.

I'd suggest that EBG/L are leaving the fleet, otherwise it makes no sense not to refurb them.

Since that article Qantas has announced the reconfiguration of some 200's into an international subfleet. Whilst that doesn't mean these two a/c will continue I think it points that way. Of course we are still waiting for the details of the reconfig.

Plus no secret qantas wants to increase usage of the 200's on international flights due to the downturn our west. So kind of makes sense.

My memory may be failing me, but they've never actually officially announced any further reconfiguration of some of the A332 fleet. The supposed reconfiguration of some -200s is (for now anyway) a rumour that's floating around in various forums.

Of course, we hope they would see some sense and just get it done but...

moa999, you may have explained this a few times before, so my apologies.

I thought that the above two A332s were the only ones suitable for SYD - PEK due to the sector length and their larger galleys and crew rest positions.

What typically happens when either of these are unavailable for QF107/QF108? For instance, on Saturday 11 March, QF107/QF108 was operated by A333 VH-QPF. What flight generally 'loses' its A333 so one can run to PEK?

Does the substitution of the 'special' A332s with an A333 on these flights lead to any operating problems?

One option is QF3/4 (HNL) which are usually operated by an 333. The other option is QF81/82 (morning departure from SYD/early evening departure from SIN).

As operating problems, I believe from a discussion earlier this thread, there were no restrictions in terms of pax carried on the 333 so maybe the restriction is in terms of cargo that can be carried.

Looking at my mid-June QF6 from SIN and it appears EBG/EBL will operate the flight (still in the 36J/199Y config). It was a new config when I checked last week so it might change back again.

Is the decision as to which QFi flights have A333s and which have A332s based on the total yield (revenue) per flight or some other consideration such as how J books, or whether aircraft need to be swapped as can occur in HKG or SIN?

QF81 out of SYD to SIN appears to be an A333 less than half the time.

QF19 to MNL has not been operated by an A333 since March 2017 from what I can see, yet it must be a route now with some business traffic. The shorter QF41 (SYD - CGK) also appears to be constantly an A332.

Granted that QF lacks sufficient A333s to operate all its non-B744 and non-A388 QFi flights, but it might be good to spread the A333s around, perhaps for instance operating them twice a week SYD - MNL (perhaps on what may be the busiest flights, Fridays and Saturdays northbound) given that passengers to SIN have a choice of two daily QF flights with QF5/QF6 the other offering (but sometimes the latter may be one of the two unrefurbished A332s normally used SYD - PEK and return.)
