here's an interesting tidbit...way back when QF announced the A330 refurb/upgrade, there was such a hooha about QF not putting in a premium economy cabin...and because CX did/does , QF made a big mistake....well guess what!...CX is axing/removing premium economy from ALL their A330/south asia/middle east flights (as per an article in 'business traveller')....seems it wasn't QF that made the mistake this time:lol:

It's not Australia though. Perhaps you should read the article more carefully. Nor does it apply to the US or Europe.

But CX has already removed some PE capacity to Australia though, so not quite the golden egg that some are making it out to be.

I'm well aware of that. They have just rebalanced the number of seats in each class to suit demand. The demand is still there however!

In CX W I have noticed a fair number of pax are connecting from/to long haul destinations, eg. UK, EU, US. A lot of these seats being retained are most likely so that these long haul connecting pax have W the entire way (unlike QF W to DXB, then EK Y to EU for example).

With Jetstar receiving another 787 yesterday (VH-VKI) there should be another A330-200 returning to Qantas shortly. I imagine it will get the business suite refit straight away.

I was on QF652 EBD last night while boarding in PER, EBV was out my window and I was thinking how I wish we had that one instead.

Totally agree. I had to go on the PER-MEL redeye the other night. I was on EBM and also out the window was EBV. I felt like all my loyalty to QF was worth nothing........!! Even though it had nothing to do with Loyalty

You'll still get arguments.

Any other airlines around the world installing premium economy in their A330s?

off the top of my head I can only think of Virgin and Air France. Some other carriers have 'economy comfort' (same economy seat with extra leg-room) - but that's not really 'premium economy' in the true sense. (BA doesn't operate the A330, but offers premium economy on similar sized aircraft including the 767 and 787.)

edited: Alitalia also offers PEY.

AY also doing extra "Economy Comfort" seats, with 3-5" more legroom, different amenity packs, priority boarding. So somewhat like PE. Hawaiian have the extra legroom "Comfort" seats as well. So there seems to be demand for a form of PE in a few more airlines. These often seem to be more like CX, with economy meals etc, but a few extras including more leg space.

The additional width is the main selling point of PE for me. That's not to say I don't appreciate the leg room too though.

On QF5 on the Tarmac in the new layout now. It's outstanding! Thumbs up from all pax

I will do some kinda TR for this trip, I couldn't be happier (unless my return flight changes to the new bird too!!!)

Interesting being on QF5.
QPA previously been doing 35/36/81/82 rotations.
Are you on QPA ?
Edit - Guess you must be as QPE/QPJ doing the earlier flights and QPA not found on FR24

Yep QPA.
Still on the Tarmac, problems with IFE!

Seats are beautiful but the sash seat belt is annoying/keep cutting into my neck.

Door just closed. Phew! See you all on the flip side...

Oh fun. Now there's a problem with a tyre pressure indicator. Door open again so they can update a tech log hopefully before takeoff soon!

Sounds like the new Panasonic system is cough. I flew on a new SQ 777 last August which has the same system and it was woeful. Always hanging, screen going but could use controls, then a minute or two later, whoosh all the buttons you pressed come through at once. Totally hung twice but after 5 minutes rebooted itself. Bump the screen when off and a few seconds later the screen comes to life in full brightness along with the small screen in the controller (something don't think Qantas speced). Then to turn both off a right palava.

I couldn't find the answer in any other threads so I'll ask here. In the 333's with new J seats there are no seats 23J and 23K, so 24J and 24K are bulkhead seats. But QF is not charging the extra legroom fee (as for 23A, 23B) for MEL-SIN. Has anyone sat in 24J? Is the only reason QF not charging for the seat is because of frequent equipment change while the fleet is being upgraded?

And I was wondering why the QF lounge opening times extended last night as I waited for an 1am departure. :)

If it's QPA, then there must've been some sort of a delay, probably in SYD, and they subbed a spare for the 81/82 run. Would be interesting to see what they do with it now.

QPA operated QF5/6 and is now on QF19 to MNL. Presumably a slightly shorter flight to get it back on time.

Coming back as QF20 it's got a five hour turn around to be back on as QF81

Edit: And now back on schedule as QF81
