speaking of storage - i left my macbook sitting on the little armrest/desk for take off and landing - not a single word from any of the flight attendants making sure my seat was in an appropriate position and the green light was on and then window open.

Quick trip East to PER and had refurb over and not refurb J-Dom seat on way back... Wow, what a difference. Chalk and cheese.

Just had my flight on Sunday PER-SYD change from New J Back to the old.

Hoping vainly that it switches back but looks unlikely.

Kind of answering my own question from earlier, looks like they are, for now at least, planning to run the refurbs on the new BNE-NRT route going by my the seat map I can choose from. But of course now that I've posted it will revert back to unrefurb the day before I fly. Also looks like a refurb a332 going SYD-BNE at the moment as well.

Thanks for the update - keeps me relaxed.

Not sure why all the different refurb turnaround times - I thought there would be a dedicated team however perhaps not. First in best dressed.

First 4 300s also had C8 check which is normally about a month. The plane gets stripped to a bare shell and lots of metal testing etc.

Then for both the 300s and 200s the time to refurb has gradually reduced, presumably as they become more proficient with the installation.

As QPI is one of the newer 330s speculation that it might just be getting the seats replaced, with the C-check waiting for a later date - hence potentially out 3/4-Aug to give QPE a space. Unlike QPA-QPF, QPI is also yet to get a repaint to New Roo

moa999 - how do I work out which plans fly the QF5/6 routes so I can match them up to your refurb update log?

While this article is largely about QF''s probable order for B787-9s, the last paragraph has a change to A332 operations with fewer on MEL- PER and more between SYD and BNE from October:

Qantas flies closer to new 787 Dreamliner fleet after pilots accept pay deal

I do not know if this higher capacity per plane may mean a reduction in QF peak period frequency between SYD and BNE. Of course an A332 does not have twice the capacity of a B738 (the ratio is more like 55 per cent more) but airline management faced with stagnant demand among corporate travellers and relatively weak demand among leisure travellers could be tempted to do a little 'enhancement.'

I could not yet see a specific QF media release about this on its website, but it is further evidence of how transcontinental passenger numbers are gradually declining with the ending of the labour intensive LPG offshore production phase along with the poor iron ore price that are both contributing to lower employment in this most important natural resources sector. Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics monthly figures always have a lag but they are starting to show this, along with a slight decline overall in monthly air passenger numbers Australia-wide.

It will be interesting if VA follows suit or whether it starts to boast that a higher percentage of its MEL - PER - MEL flights are the VH-XFCs and sisters of the world.

Thanks again to moa999 for his excellent, amazingly detailed work on keeping everyone informed about the A332/A333 refurbishments.

What relevance does this post have to the thread?

mannej, the contribution is about where the A332s will fly - sometimes A333s have been substituted for A332s on the transcontinental route if my memory is correct.

Re: QANTAS BNE-SIN J Class seating

a 77W with coffin seating rather than herringbone? Unless you mean regional configuration? (I assumed you meant international because of of the article on the new seats).

Indeed the herringbone which I hate so remember. This year have had the 330s which have the new seat.

I've just done a bit of research on this... CX configured all 50 of their long-haul A330s, and 77Ws, by Feb 2013. Taking just on two years to complete everything. Pretty good going I reckon.

The odd numbered window seats have an extra storage area in them that the even ones don't. Go figure!
Easy to comprehend - the Odd numbered "window" seats are adjacent to the aisle so have strait forward access while the even one are adjacent to the window and need a 'chute' to enable PAX to access them.

It's the space not required for a 'chute' in the odd numbered seats that is used for additional storage.

FWIW, with an even window seat, I stored stuff in the footwell for takeoff/landing and eating etc.

When in bed mode I moved the stuff to the floor of the chute.

Having flown both now I like the odd numbered seat better.

Was on a Mk 1 Skybed a few days ago, ouch that did feel pretty awful especially the absolute lack of storage and that metal bar up the bum. I do remember how exciting they were when they first came out though.

Reported on YSSY that the guess that QPI was just getting a quick refurbishment is correct.

Poster suggests QPI will come out in the next few days and go straight back to operations without a paint job. That will make 5 330-300s, so a better than even chance (5 of 9 given QPE into refurb)

I'll be giving 2F a burl tomorrow on the inaugural QF 61 BNE-NRT, thanks to Qantas and Australian Business Traveller. I'm looking forward to it!!
