ALL QF's 330's to get lay flat Business seating - Including Domestic

I'm only going on the figures QF list. An 11,000km range with full payload would mean they wouldn't need to weight restrict PVG... which they were clearly doing on the couple flights I did (lots of room). A332s were packed to the rafters.

The figures on the Qantas website are very much wrong thats for sure.

As for PVG there are any number of reasons why flights may have weight restrictions. A few that come to mind are runway works leaving a shorter runway, weather issues. That said as I mentioned above the 4 international -200's were obtained to operate amongst other routes BOM and PVG. BOM was most certainly due to range, but maybe there is some issue at PVG that does result in weight limitations. May well be fixed now.

Would there by any kind souls who can tell me the scheduled config of QF653 (Mel-Per) this Sunday (18th) evening? If it's scheduled to be a reconfig I may throw in an upgrade request....

So.... checked seat map today and now am back to a refurb'd bird, should be happy right?....but our allocated row 1AC bassinet seat selection has disappeared and we are in row 3! with no bassinet, according to ExpertFlyer 1A 1E and 1K are vacant only 1F is occupied, I requested 1A and 1E over the phone, agent says he can only allocate 1A, as 1F must be a chairmans lounge or P1, so 1E is blocked grrrrr. so either we sit in seats away from each other or just hope on the day that they can allocate seats in 1A & 1E.
2 WP's and just under $10k in airfare and we can't get a seat which we were originally allocated because a P1 got moved there during the last aircraft config change!!! NOT HAPPY JAN!!

I just hope they come through for us before our flight, I will be mighty p****d if my wife and baby have to sit separately from me all because of an aircraft change and seating blocks of a P1, we were actually first in row 1 initially!

Red Roo is this something you can help us with?

Any idea if the SYD-PEK flights are the refurbed aircrafts?

Yes! SYD-PEK on Air China features full flat, very comfortable, full forward facing beds with comfy duvets and 80 inches of pitch. :D

QF fly to Beijing?? ;)
Do you mean Shanghai (PVG)?

SYD-PVG is still hit and miss for QF aircraft. New suites show on the seat map but are then substituted a day or two before departure on some flights. No compensation offered.

MEL you do fly CA to China right? Do you book the flights direct on their web site?

I do!

Yes - you can book on the AU website. Fares are generally all over the place... booking close in MEL-PVG and you're looking in the AUD4k range, further out (november for example) return fares start at AUD3099 and range again into the mid $4000's.

Manage you expectations regarding the food, everything else is fine.

Magically overnight we now have 1A & 1E allocated...someone is looking out for us..!

Thanks to qantassource, VH-EBM did test flight as QF6145 this morning, then returned to service as QF589 BNE-PER.
Pretty sure it has been refurbed but will await confirmation.
Has been in BNE since 29/8 (so 1mth 19days) and is also reported to have undergone a C4 check (is about 6y/o)

Will make 8/18 330-200s and 3/8 of the 330-200s with Panasonic IFE that are tagged as Dom/Int aircraft

YSSY thread also confirms no refurb on EBM.
Aircraft went unserviceable after arriving in PER...

Usually the a/c that does QF589 BNE/PER will turn around and operate back as QF598 but going by the Qantas Source EBP did QF598. The next flight operated by EBM was QF772 PER/MEL 18 Oct it ended up overnighting in PER.

Not sure how EBP got to PER as no mention of a ferry flight below but it must've happened
in between operating QF642 PER/SYD on Fri 16 Oct and operating QF598 on Sat 17 Oct.

Tried the refurb for thr first time last night. Hit ans miss, sound did not work for at least three of us and required a reboot. We were also delayed due to needing a new tyre. And we were not allowed to use the approved recline position for landing...

I also tried the refit for the first time tonight and while it is of course a superb product for domestic business class, I can't see these wearing well at all. VH-EBA was already showing some fairly serious ageing in the business suites and the whole thing felt to me rather shoddily built. The side wall on my suite rocked very loosely and the back of the seat felt not at all strong. Some of the joinery on the suite infront was very awkwardly done and the colouring has resulted in some very obvious marking.

On the whole a fabulous product for the services it will be utilised on....

It's good for cross-country flights and would be great for Trans-Tasman if ever scheduled. Far superior to old J but I still think it's a lost opportunity for the longer haul flights to Asia. Having sampled a few more J offerings from different airlines of late, I put QF's behind EK and CX, but better than BA. I should be flying SQ a bit soon so that will be interesting to compare.

Only had a couple of experiences but I am also concerned re durability and quality of finishing. But these suites are by no means alone - all airlines must have a tough time with maintenance.

Could some kind person tell me if the QF42 from Jakarta to Sydney on the 8th is a planned refurb? Like to put an upgrade request in.
