Could some kind person tell me if the QF42 from Jakarta to Sydney on the 8th is a planned refurb? Like to put an upgrade request in.

Hi - QF42 from CGK-SYD on 8th Nov currently shows as a refurbished A330-200 (the domestic version).
Here's availability as well: J9 C8 D4 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9

Even if showing as a refurb - no guarantees. Can be swapped out at short notice - so you need to be content with Mk1.

Jakarta has only seen one non refurb in the past month or so. For the most part EBS and EBV have been doing the honours, with QPC doing a run a week or so ago. EBG is the only non refurb to have appeared in recent weeks.

In some ways the refurb is good for Jakarta, but for people like you, and me for that matter (I fly this route regularly), who fly in economy, the refurb will see upgrade seats diminish somewhat as there are now 9 less seats.

BTW your chances on a Sunday are slim, that and Monday are the busiest days on QF41. Wed and Fri are better options. For what it is worth QF42 is better for upgrades on a Wed, and not very good on Fri or Sun. Mon is hit and miss.

Whilst the advice is true, you would have to be unlucky on the Jakarta route now EBV and EBS are flying international. As mentioned above only one non refurb has been on the route in the past month or so. Guess the advantage of being not too far so can be operated by the domestic configured birds. Downside for upgraders, now less chance as 9 seats less.

Thanks all...CGK to SYD flights over the last few months seem to have been super busy. Ive had to fly CGK-SIN-SYD even on days QF42 has been operating. Ill put an upgrade request in as soon as QF website is back online.

Out of BNE the refubed A333 is certainly better than the offering by SQ to BNE and personally found it more comfortable than the CX product.Though yesterday I tried another variation on AA's 763.As a bed it was more comfortable than the others. But then no personal IFE.Being a domestic flight no other alternative.

8th of which month? Although you can now see the seat maps for Y, if it's an A332, the new config has the last row of Y in the first section finishing at row 39 (before the toilets). Other configs finish with different row numbers. For an A333, the new config is missing seats 23J/K. And, as always, last minute subs can happen.

Thanks, I found the A333 config details for my last flight out of SIN but couldn't find it for the A332. (oh..and 8th Nov)

Showing as refurbed at the moment in a configuration I haven't seen before

When flying to Jakarta 7K is not sold as it used as crew rest. Hence the total of 27 seats.

Other than that it is a normal looking 200 layout. What looks odd at row 6 is because in the front cabin there are 5 window rows and 6 middle rows, so no 6A/6K, likewise in the rear cabin, there is only 1 window row, with 7K not sold but 2 middle rows.

On a -300 business is in the front cabin, so 7 rows of 4 with no business seats reserved for crew.

What I don't follow with the crew rest is on the -200's it is a toal of 5 seats, 1 xJ and 4 xY, but on the -300's it is only 4 xY. So why the need for the extra seat on shorter flights compared to the 300?

What's so special with the handicap seats such as 3K compared to the others?

Thoughts on the new 330 J vs A380 J (potentially F)? Flying from HKG-SYD and I'm not sure if its worth the $200 extra just to get on an A380 and applying for an upgrade to J (picking an F seat) and plus given that it's a night flight I'll be sleeping through most of it..

Business Suite in A330 is a superior product, more room, and not subject to the droop of the SkyBedII, just not guaranteed - could always get subbed for the non-refurb sloping SkybedI

Sat in 3K last weekend and didnt notice anything special about it... except that the headphone jack didnt work.
Being adjacent to the aisle, the odd numbered K seats are easier for mobility impaired PAX to access ... e.g. transferring from a wheel chair (Industry standard is for such to be done toward the left as you face down the aisle).

It is the same with the odd numbered E seats.

Makes sense. I felt quite exposed in that seat when I reclined and wouldnt choose it for a longer flight.

My QF42 for tonight which departs in just over 6 hours is still showing as a refurb.

Does this mean that I am likely going to be safe ? Or is there still a risk of last minute equipment substitution ?

Also I was on 5E as when I booked a month ago there was not much available.

Now 2A, 4K and 3E have opened up. And I have switched to 4K.

Am I correct in saying that 4K is the window seat with the console on the aisle side (you're not sleeping right on the aisle) and probably the pick of the seats for a solo traveller ?

I'm pretty sure it was 4K that fits that description but only had a few seconds in the lounge and no time to trawl through this thread.

Cheers

You've got a good chance but a plane can always go tech or divert last minute and a reshuffle occurs
