Had fantastic services and offers on this FREE PROMO EDGE card for the last year....
1 Year is nearly up and looking to cancel as I DON'T PAY FEES!
So will I be banned for only 1 year from future promos?
Has anyone had annual fee 2nd year waived?

You are more than likely to get offered bonus points to stay which will be between 15000-23000, but if you are looking for annual fee free, your chance is slim.

I used to have that approach as a universal rule, now I make an exception for AMEX issued cards. For everyone else the rule still applies for me though

I generally apply the same rule to you, blueythecat ! Unless of course, the value of the sign up bonus clearly outweighs the annual fee and I have an idea of usage of those points

Absolutely, I'm always good for an annual fee when there is a big sign-on bonus involved. It's the next year the card falls out of favour, and for some reason it's always around that annual fee time

Well I got the indian lady...very pleasant...only offered to go FREE Discovery Virgin\Qantas card and declined......as above I'm not interested in annual fees!
Still have NAB, CBA and Westpac AMEX.....had ANZ last year too.....
I know it's not pure AMEX but good enough until next attempt to get AMEX via referral in 1 year Fee Free?

I also got the same Platinum Edge deal; no annual fee for the first year, and 10,000 bonus points through a referral. I usually avoid credit cards with annual fees too, but this one is a keeper for me. I've just plugged the first 12 months worth of statements into a spreadsheet, and here's a summary....
Spent: $21,661.15
Statement credits: $270 (which on its own is more than the usual annual fee)
Points: 51,842 (an average of 2.4ppd, before any Local Champion points)
Bonus points: 30,000 (10,000 through a referral, another 10,000 as a referrer (which I think was you, PLANT - thanks!), and a full quota of 10,000 Local Champion points)
Free flight: CBR - OOL and return
Plus I think I availed myself of at least one 15% points transfer bonus.
I don't have the heart to make the 'phone call.

You've got great value from the card.
I'm in a similar situation and just redeemed free flight for next weekend for the good wife. ~$450 in value alone, so makes the annual fee worthwhile.
The plat edge was my first FF card and have been really happy with it for the past six years.

Just called Amex to try to upgrade my professionals-affiliated platinum edge to the reserve - they said they couldn't help me over the phone and I had to do it via the link in my professional affiliation website instead. So I instead asked to cancel the card and they immediately offered 23k points which I gladly accepted.
Will probably still upgrade to the reserve in a few days once points are through.

Lucky you. I didn't try to cancel my Edge card but just asking if they could do something for me. My spending on Edge is only 4-5k a year as using other cards mainly. I'd been advised to close down my account if I didn't use the card that much. :shock:

Called and cancelled my Velocity Platinum, offered 15,000 velocity points to retain it.
Also interestingly the flight and lounge pass renewal for the year happened about 2 weeksbefore the annual fee was due to be charged.
Apparently the card services team cannot tell if you have redeemed your flight or not so potentially you could get 2 flights booked in the one year before cancelling and avoiding the 2nd year fee.

Was also offered 15,000 points to keep my Qantas Ultimate Amex. This combined with the free flight only just covers the annual fee for me. However, have kept it for the additional points on hotels and restaurants over my ANZ Amex.
