So I cancelled my Amex Velocity Plat tonight. Member since Jan 2014 and I've earned 295000 points total from the card which should indicate the spend I've had on it. Didn't get offered anything at all. Just a "ok we will cancel the account".

Just apply for a new card with a signup bonus, you will be miles in front!

dont know what others do, i don't ring to cancel. I just state that I'm considering cancelling and want to know if there are any incentives for me to stay.

I do this too. Act ambivalent and you may find it works in your favour than direct instruction.

I've had a platinum charge card for 12 months, spending a total of about $50k or so on it, and rang up to cancel. There was a half-hearted attempt at convincing me to keep it, but they didn't put much effort in (just reminding me about lounge access etc) and didn't offer anything.

Just rang. Offered 15k points to keep my QF Ultimate Amex. Seems on the low-side compared to what others have been offered. Said I'd think about it.

That card is tricky, depends how you value the qf flight I guess. If you're based in Perth its almost worthwhile renewing.

I'd do this except that the card i have (gold charge) is no longer offered.

Another option is to ask to switch cards. I did this with a Qantas Amex and was offered the Platinum Amex Rewards, complete with 15,000 sign-up bonus. Best thing was I didn't have to apply so there was no mark against my credit rating.

They've offered that to me in the past, but to be honest i'm set on the gold charge, and after leaving i don't see any way of getting it back. I'll still threaten to leave but won't have much bite to back up my roar lol.

they ask a lot of questions about why, I think last time the guy I spoke to was quite knowledgeable and honestly wanted the feedback. He could see why it wasn't worth my while without some kind of sweetener.

They asked me similar too. I just said I'm re-assessing my finances and credit card situation and this particular one has a very high annual fee. They made no attempt to convince me of the benefits, just said hold on a minute and come back with the offer.

Currently have the Amex Plat charge, edge & reserve cards. I've always been calling each year and getting anything from around 20k to 50k in 'incentives' for renewing the charge card (nothing on the edge because I didn't bother calling) but given that there's an offer for 120k bonus points on sign up, I'm almost tempted to just can the entire suite of cards and reapply individually with signup bonuses.

Only worry is, I've gotten into this credit card signup game and my credit scores are now horrible (~600 Veda ~650 Experian) so I don't know if this whole ordeal is worth it just for 120k points...

I'm very curious to see what Amex will say/offer when I tell them I'm cancelling everything though. Will report back if they offer anything significant.

I was recently offered 23K QFF points to keep my Qantas Premium AMEX card. Last year I think I was offered 32K (which I accepted, every year before that they waived the fee, which happened for maybe 6-7 years). The annual fee is $195 so even if I were to exchange the points for vouchers it would not cover the cost of the fee. Beside this, I've no real idea on the value of the points offered - would any of you take up the 23K for $195?
