I've forgotten to carry out my threat to cancel my cards and used the concierge with mixed bag of success in the past months

Don't like my chances given one card renewed in November and another back in January but might give them a call still.

So in a bit of a dilemma,

looking to change over to the NAB velocity purely for the 60k bonus points. i am about 8 months into having my current Amex issued velocity platinum card. If i call to cancel the current Amex issued card and in the unlikely event that they offer bonus points to stay, would i still be able to bank the points they give and then cancel once they are in my account and before my actual year is up? or would they go looking for their points if this happened?

i would imagine this is not possible, but just thought i would ask if anyone else has done it before.

Should be fine. It's their risk in awarding you points.

Just got my Annual fee for Citibank charged and realised I got the Amex at the same time. Rang up and did the spiel and got 44k.

Turns out the new year actually started today, but he still have me the points

Yes, I think that it pays to wait until the fee has been billed, and not try for the points incentive in advance.

Called up today and was offered 36k points or $250 credit applied to my Platinum Charge account. Renewal isn't until September so I accepted the points and will call back in a couple of months to let the card go! As a data point, I only put about 2-3k on the card a month of meals and travel - to max out the MR returns.

Cancelled my Qantas Amex Discovery Card (the one with no annual fee) today, and was offered 8,000 points to keep it - I declined.

I was surprised to be offered any points TBH, as this is a card with a small limit that I've pretty much only used for shop small and other amex offers in recent years.

I called to cancel my Amex Velocity Platinum card, just to see what they offered, I kept the card after being offered 15k in velocity points, if only they gave 120k like when I signed up originally lol

I didn't do as well as some here, but got 23000 points when I rang to ask what they could offer me to keep my Platinum Charge card.

called to cancel my DJs black card and was offered 30000 points to keep it, i accepted.
30k DJ pts are worth around $200 in gift cards so its not too bad, annual fee of $99.

Have you had much spend on the card? I barely use mine now that I have the platinum edge...Might try the same.

I was offered 25,000 points to not cancel Velocity Platinum . Took it, and cancelled it two weeks later anyway, as I had applied for Amex Plat Charge. Strangely, my partner was only offered 7,000 points

Amex Qantas Premium offered ZERO points when I called to cancel. They said, "OK, do you need any time to download your statements before we delete them?". About the same level of service people (including me) have been complaining about from the Qantas contact centre lately! At least QF has consistency across the brand.

Any whilst checking, is there an option on the account to find out when the membership anniversary ticks over or do you need to call AMEX for that?

Was offered 30,000 points to hold on to my Velocity Platinum. I was also told that if I were to cancel the card after accepting this offer, they will retrieve the points back as per the T&C. Crunching the number to see if its worth the $349 annual fees. Have a decent VA balance, VA plat for lounge access and am planning to retain my QF plat next yr. Decisions decisions.
