I did take a deep breath, and actually kept my cool during the phone call within the last 2 hours!

Try again.... As in using thw card at the "banned list"?

Card is no longer suspended, as the person said...

No, try again to explain your situation. Deep breath, relax. Go open a bottle. Come back and try again to tell us what you are thinking in about ..... oh an hour. We're not going anywhere.

Has anyone ever been in "deep hot water" with them and they set "strict rules" to unblock (un suspend) your account?
I haven't, but then I am trying to imagine what on earth you may have done. Run a card through your own merchant account maybe, but I am not really sure what they do in that case.

Re your Credit rating: apply to FOS. www.fos.org.au Get that fixed up.

My "understanding" is you have a shop and you run the card through to obtain a bejillion points? Be careful about criminal laws - but luckily the Membership Rewards terms say points have zero dollar value (I think).

what do the terms say about "offsetting negative points" with genuine new ones?

Maybe you just pay the card cash debt and tell them to go get knotted. But definitely get Fos onto the 'credit rating" and onto the "notation".

What is "the" banned list?? Sorry if this is a naive question.

Just saying I'm not allowed to use the card at specific places. Not an actual ban list for everyone.

It is a concept I have not heard of. Unless it is somewhere you are involved with the business.. Or you found some other way of milking the system!

Maybe he's on that 5k/5t - you got 5000 points for 5 'transactions' at online gsmbling sites, brothels, racetracks, TABs and gaming machines! :D

Maybe he has a cobranded HSUA-Amex card. They're accepted at all the 'delicatessens' that are open at 3am. "Don't leave the wife without it" says Karl Malden :)

As stated in a huge prosecution,

"60. American Express has for many years maintained the highest card acceptance fees among networks, including Visa and MasterCard. In recent years, American Express has increasingly been able to resist merchant pressure to reduce its card acceptance fees. American Express CEO Ken Chenault explained in 2009:

At a time when many companies have had to cut or discount their prices and fees, we've been able to hold our own . . . . We're not lowering prices to get or keep customers or merchants. We continue to sign new merchants at existing discount rate levels . . . . This is significantly different from the position we were in during the downturn of the early 1990's. At that time our card and merchant pricing was under enormous pressure, and we did have to reduce fees.

American Express has increased the fees it charges many merchants without losing sufficient merchants to make the price increases unprofitable."

Now they're facing law suits and a merchant rebellion. And cancellation of the $1200 plat cards. Maybe they should change the "Welcome" sign to "More welcome than Meter Readers & Jehovahs Witnesses"

i have just ordered some equipment we use that can only be purchased in US, and while filling out the CC authorisation form, that the use of AMex is only 3%, but get this, Visa - 4%, M/C 5%

nothing like a change!

Is that a minus sign or a dash??? If the item is $100, is Amex $103, Visa $96, and Mcard $105? Pardon my disbelif if Amex is actually cheaper.

Yeah weird huh? I've had this in Singapore on my travels. 10% off goods and services to use Amex, standard charge if I want to use VISA/MC

FWIW - my #1 man yesterday bought a MacAir - JB were offering 10% off with 2.75% AMEX fee - Apple in Southland matched JB's price and no fee.

I have had 15% off using Amex in Bangkok in some English pubs in Sukhumvit.

I may have posted this one before.
