AMEX not accepted or surcharge

I may have posted this one before.

JB Hi-FI 2.65% surcharge for using Amex! Seiously? That is a joke.

Seems to change depending on the store, I've seen as low as 1.95%. The part that gets me is they rationalise it by saying it's the premium compared to other cards. Which would suggest they are being charged 3% or more by Amex.

If you use JB Hifi online you can pay with PayPal and use Amex that way, but most likely will incur a postage fee.

Depending on what your buying, David Jones Electronics, powered by Dick Smith will bring in most electronics for you. You order and pay at DJ's, no surcharge for Amex, even better is the 4 ppd for a DJ's Platinum Amex and then collect it at Dick Smith. I found this out today while looking at an Apple Macbook Pro....

Depending on what your buying, David Jones Electronics, powered by Dick Smith will bring in most electronics for you.

CD's/DVD's. AC/DC box set and Black Sabbath. Not mine by the way.

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere either here or other SoMe that the surcharge on Amex is manual at JBHiFi.
Might be an option to try that out

That is my experience. I have done a "Bait & Switch" at the counter previously.....

JB-HiFi: How will you be paying sir.......

ME: MasterCard (Flash Card) & then a quick switch to Amex.....

None the wiser...

I didn't think of that. I was looking at vouchers at Woolworths the other day and there is a voucher for almost everything.

You might have. You could use JB Hi-FI gift cards bought at another store or try to get a price match at another store if possible. E.g Hardly Norman.

Another trap for young players. I purchased a Coles gift card from Kmart the other day. No double points. D'oh. Kmart is not a supermarket. I may have done the same thing with Big W in the past as well.

Fortunately it works in reverse though - you can buy Big W (Wish) and Kmart gift cards from Woolies and Coles to get triple points on purchases from your discount variety/department stores! Triple points for everything!

Skybus (Melbourne Airport-Southern Cross) has stopped taking Amex as of 1 July.

Don't know if this has been posted already, but Skybus is now accepting AMEX again and even Diners Club!

I bought a Skybus ticket last month (22 July) and AMEX was still not accepted, don't know when the change happened. But AMEX is back!

Cafe in Sydney this morning asked how will I pay... I said Amex, they said ok, no mention of fees or surcharges.

I watched the cashier type in the correct amount and the NAB terminal automatically added the surcharge. Cashier hits OK twice and its charged. The receipt says "Customer accepts surcharge".

What is wrong with advertising a price on your menu and charging that price.

Depending on how I felt at the time I'd be inclined towards making a scene about this. For a start, the cashier shouldn't be pressing ok to anything .... that is meant to be _your_ opportunity to check the dollar figure entered and you could _decline_ the surcharge at that point.

I agree. With the massive overcharging that goes on in this country across the board I really don't understand why we've also become so intensely penny pinching.

Was at a dymocks in Taylors Lakes, Victoria last week to make good on my spend $60/get $15 statement credit offer.
Just as I was about to swipe my card, they told me they didn't take amex :-|

Had to backtrack out of the transaction, citing that I didn't have any other non-amex cards (despite a visible wallet full of various cards) twas a bit embarassing

Made my eligible purchase 2 days later at a different dymocks (Richmond, Victoria), made sure to ask if they took amex first.
