AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Aren't mitre 10 a franchise? So depends on individual owners?

I believe so as they have the owners name at the front normally!

But not accepting Amex when you have Bunnings and now Lowe's around the corner is just silly

Tried to use mt card at Dymocks the other day and got o not accept AMEX! This from the "leading bookseller in Asia Pacific" accoring to their website. Steange thing their website has the AMEX symbol as payment but the shop in Knox didn't take it? Do they start now to differentiate based on location of the place of purchase?

As posted in another thread, the inner city Brisbane Nandos no longer appear to accept Amex. Haven't got around to "reporting" the stores, but will get there.

Local IGA no longer accepts Amex. Well I spend about 20 to 25 a week here, I said, & you will lose customers with Coles & Safeways a K up the road. Just got the shoulder shrug. So I thanked them for their previous service & said goodbye.
Yesterday drove a K up the road just for the Sunday paper.

My local IGA has never accepted Amex. Wonder how thats working out for them with Woolies 5 minutes up the road? Woolies with their discount petrol, EDR QFF earn + accepting Amex with no surcharge ... its a strong motivator. My local IGA, despite being handy, offers nothing but slightly higher pricing.

I assume you are telling a check-out staff member that they will lose your business.. They are not going to care!

I suggest emailing your local store directly!

Actually I believe she is one of the family members that have the franchise.
She also complained about the high cost of offering Amex.
But they are a small store with slightly higher prices on average & less choice so only used for convenience.
But no more as a matter of principle.

In that case, what a pathetic answer from a small business owner trying to compete with Woolies/Coles !

Slightly higher prices - I can deal with
No everyday rewards - I can deal with, as I do seem to spend extra to get more rewards and since they are going to QFF I am getting less interested by the day
No Amex - That's a deal breaker for me

No doubt they'll wonder why even more people move to Woolies/Coles and they'll just blame the big guys, again!

I shop at my local Foodworks at times (they accept Amex), mainly when my shop is going to be less than $50 as 20 QFF points doesn't really interest me. But for a bigger shop and a promo I'll stick with Woolies!

I do a lot of small shopping away from woollies cos of the $30.00 threshold. So will rethink if my IGA is not accepting Amex

Complained to Amex about the new Roses Only surcharge - got an email yesterday to say that it has been removed, which I've just confirmed for myself on a test order :D

Interesting to see if this will change behavious:

RBA cracks down on credit card charges
RBA: Media Release-Payments System Issues

Question will still be : what is excessive ??
Cabcharge at 10% albeit higher cost base with everything on wireless
Qantas at a flat fee
Retailers at 3%

(maybe desrves its own thread)

I have often asked restaurants and the like why they don't just build the CC fee into their price and offer a discount for cash, a nicer, softer way of dealing with it IMHO

received promotional mail today for the DailyTelegraphed to be home delivered at a reduced rateand the paperwork has on it if i fill it in and post back to them provisions for accepting AMEX. when i looked online at the special offer they only accepted Visa and MC. i sent the paper version off to them.......

This is what a lot of the Indian restaurants in UK do.

SYD Tax and Duty Free no surcharge when I purchased tobacco the other day. Was this a mistake or have they genuinely removed the surcharge for Amex?
