AMEX rejection

Now I'm scared there is a fake default on my file that I can't see!!
You could just pull your Equifax report with GetCreditScore or the free Equifax annual credit report here:

I believe AMEX are using Equifax - I have a subscription with them and I can see they pull my credit report from Equifax monthly.

I have done this, no default as far ad I can see.

Ilion and experian reports also have no issues. Hope this just means I need to wait a bit longer.

i'm in similar boat, was rejected earlier in the year. When speaking with a customer service rep they implied it may have been due to churning. They specifically asked if i had opened and closed a lot of credit cards in a short space of time. i had closed 1 in the prior 3 months but had slowed down significantly.

I opened under my wife instead, haven't opened/closed any cards since so will try again just before her card annual fee is due.

First decline for me.
Applied for an Amex Explorer with 70k bonus points on the 31/12/2024, and today I got a physical letter in the post (dated the 30/12/2024!) advising I'd been rejected "based wholly or partly on your credit information received etc."

I guess it's due to churning since my credit score is "excellent", I earn a decent wage and have no mortgage/loans, but I did open/close 4 or 5 cards in 2023-2024. My last Amex card was closed about 19 months ago.

Was thinking I'd keep this card as I'm hoping to join the ranks of the self funded retirees mid next year. Maybe I'll resubmit in 3 months as people have suggested...

yeah certainly seems churning CC's overrides any excellent credit score we have.
It overrides decent wage, other loans, churning looking more frowned upon in credit world.

I am coming up on 90 days since my last decline. Should be 7 months since last account was opened. Any insights into if different Amex cards might have a higher / lower chance of approval?

I last applied for an AMEX and was rejected (no doubt based on churning - have opened and closed about 12 in the past 30 months) in May. I've opened and closed one card since then, closing the last one in November.

Applied for the Platinum Charge card as I was offered 275,000 points. All the page asked me for was my ID details and a text box to fill in my annual salary (and partners annual salary). Upon clicking next I got the page saying I would contacted in 5-10 days. Got the rejected letter 2 days later.

My take home is there was no financial assessment whatsoever. The income is well above whats required and credit score is 880/1000. I'm clearly on their $hit list because of churning :(

Im thinking to not use an elevated offer, maybe just the public offer on something. Won't try amex plat because that seems to be getting a lot of rejections, maybe plat edge. Honestly who knows.
