Amex Shop Small is on [Oct/Nov 2016]

I completed Shop Small today - 71 credits from 7 cards. It seems that manual credits for where a business refused to accept Amex don't count in your total. I did 20 OPAL top-ups and the rest were a mixture of cafes / restaurants, chemists, and shops. I couldn't have survived without a spreadsheet detailing which card had been used where. I found most businesses accepting of dividing up purchases into $20 lots on multiple cards although one business insisted a $90 purchase could only be split into 2.

It has been a great month for Amex credits with 5 * $40 DJ credits and 6 * $100 HN credits plus a couple of others. Well north of $1500 in all.

What did you nail the DJ offers with? I've been trying to work out a way to get some useful benefit out of those offers.....

I've done pretty well this month too though haven't got close to the full quota
Did have a Shop Small fail when I took the word of the pharmac_ checkout lady that the item would scan at $20 and not $19.99-aargh

Can you tell me where you did Opal top ups in Sydney please?

Nextra in Chatswood Westfield $1 surcharge
Neutral Bay News in Young Street $1 surcharge
Neutral Bay News in Wycombe Road $1 surcharge
Wu's pharmac_ in George Street $0.50c surcharge
Convenience at the Cove in Longueville Road, Lane Cove $0.60 surcharge.

71 from 7 cards?
Is it not 10 per card=70?
Did u need to buy a small item and add gift cards in DJ purchase or is it like just purchase GC straight out?
What GC did u buy, non DJ?

Amex gave me a credit for one store that refused to accept Amex even though it was listed on Shop Small website. This was a 'free' credit as it was not included in the 10.

I bought a standard DJ $200 gc and added a small $2 item to get free postage.

If I had to guess, and I do because I can't say for sure, I'd say that if the replacement card has a different number to the one it's replacing, you need to register the replacement card too. If not, should be tickety-boo.

I too have a replacement card waiting to be registered but I'm not doing that until Dec 1 - just to be sure.

Same card number, and it worked fine so no issues there.

At a guess Id say I managed about 15 or so credits. The full 10 on one card and a handful on the other two. Impressive effort at dinner on Sunday splitting the bill over 7 cards (and an entertainment book voucher)!

I've limped along to 9 transactions. Couldn't possibly handle more.

Hit a snag today trying to use up my last few small shops. Opal card can only be loaded with a max of $250.

Get a second card, add it to your online profile, report it as lost later and the balance will be added to your primary card.

So no last day Go or Opal top ups?

If your AMEX has free supp cards, maybe a supp for your Mum or Wife?
I don't know anyone other than 7Eleven for GoCard top ups with Amex.

I called Wesley pharmac_ yesterday. Generic Pantoprazole, Diaformin and Amoxycillin all quoted at $17 each. I went and bought the 3 of them in a pharmac_ in Queen Street for a total of $18, bought an extra Pantoprazole and got back $10 from Amex.

How much money do people throw away on overpriced medicines?

If you live on the northside, Nextra Chermside in the 'new end' of Westfield Chermside does them (opposite Woolworths), as does Aspley Day & Night News which is open until late.

No top-up fees or AMEX surcharges at either place: you just have to insert your card and use a PIN as the terminals don't work for AMEX contactless. ;)
