As the dentist does accept AMEX, you can earn more points by not doing the health fund rebate in the surgery, but putting the whole amount on the cc. That way, you will get all the points and the shop small discount.

Good point.

I did think about paying in full but only had 5 amex cards so no more credits and today I was happy to forego the points on the rebate in order to get it over and done with (very stressful fitting in dental emergency into an overfull day). But yes best to pay in full and then claim.

So hot one today.
Foodworks unable to split via eftpos for 3 cards.
Ended up getting 9 boxes of allbran to make $20.67 x 3= Amex $10.67 which is cheaper than coles\woolies specials $4....Aldi is cheaper but does not taste the same!
Foodworks are doing Connoisseur ice cream at $6.89 a tub until tomorrow which with Amex is cheaper($10 refund) than Woolies\coles $4.84 special!
21 transactions to Go
Off to next supermarket!

Wait Foodwork is part of small shop? Whereabouts are you located?

Hi Plant, which Foodworks are you using?

The one near me isn't part of Small Shop.

Cheers

NC

ps maybe buy some toilet paper at the next supermarket, should go well with your 9 boxes of Allbran...;)

Just working out Small attack plan.....
For others try this link and use the suburb or subject line to locate shops.....Liquor and Supermarkets will be hit by me!

Have a nice shop!

I copied the info for my state and put it into a excel worksheet. Makes it so much easier to find out which businesses are close by via postcode and key words. E.g Foodworks, Supermarkets, Liquor etc

So weird the rules some shopkeepers make up for themselves around Shop Small. In a convenience store today I asked for an Opal recharge. He informed me it'd be a 70c surcharge for using a credit card and I said fine. Then when he saw it was an AMEX he said they weren't accepting AMEX until next week - I guess after Nov 30. I can only assume he thinks/has been told that his business is going to be out by being part of Shop Small?

Similar in a shop up here in Mt Isa.. AMEX next month....we'll we'll be back next month rather than buy with a different card

You do have to shake your head at the conduct of some small businesses. I'm not proud to say I only usually spend money at major multinationals but during shop small I go out of my way to use all 90 cash backs available to me. I generally walk away from small businesses felling that they really didn't want me to spend my money with them. It's a sad state of affairs

Probably be the last time that I bought from that merchant if they tried that trick.

Some shops really dont get it...

Lucky my vet isnt one of them. Pup in for desexing yesterday=1 credit. Cat in for vaccinating today=2nd credit. Dog 2 in for grooming next week=3rd credit. They were very understanding when I explained I had Amex credits to use.

IIRC AMEX is paying for the credits and small biz should look at this as an opportunity to increase sales.

Anyone have an email/ hotline to call and report failures ? I've had a few.

Call the number on the back of your card. I had a couple of credits added because I made purchases at shops that were on the map, but were no longer in the program.

It's really strange. The only reason I can see business owners banning amex during the promotion is because of a powertrip.
"This guy is getting $10 back from amex, and I am only making a few dollars on the transaction" (if even that) - how dare he! NO AMEX FOR YOU

I have to ask 4-5 times to get them to split the bill via efpos on my 3 cards.
Initially I'm treated as a THIEF as I work out what to buy..... Well I am casing the joint ;)..... Then I explain what I want, they think their way is better but after putting items up to $19.95 they realise after I tell them for a fifth time I need $20 on my $60.60 purchase they finally put it thru!
Ice cream, apple pies and vans of fruit now full the cupboards/freezer!
