The problem with this shop small promo is that it's driving me to drink. 3 beers are cheaper than 2 :D

Tell me about, I was in The Barossa on the weekend, almost all cellar doors I visited accepted AMEX. Made for some cheap Vino :)

So has anyone had any luck splitting a dentist bill using multiple cards?

I paid the chiropractor 3 lots of $20 for a $55 bill and got a $5 credit for future visit.
Even if I hadn't got the credit it was cheaper to pay 3 x $20 and get $30 back (total cost $30) than pay $1 x $20 and 1 x $35 and get $20 back (total cost $35).

Any liquor shops connected to Coles/Woolies do the gift cards?

Not quite sure what you are getting at here PLANT.

Dans BWS and Cellarmasters are affilated to WW and accept WISH cards
Liquorland, First Choice and Vintage Cellars are affiliated to Coles and accept ColesGroupMyer GCs

Best to buy online for discount WISH and in Coles (with Edge) for bonus points.

None will be part of Shop Small though (as too big)

Dentist bill paid over 3 cards and aware of offer ;)
Research showed the above gift card for coles\woolies correct :(

But what gift cards are people buying as stated on earlier pages?

I got a gift card at a local hairdresser for my partner. $120 split over 6 cards.

Mrs fairbasa and I have gone to local participating cafes the last few weekends and paid for our lunch separately to effectively halve the cost. Has the added benefit of sampling outside the regular hangouts.

Who actually pays for the subsidy? AMEX or the merchant?

For the Shop Small promo I am 99.9% sure it is Amex. My store is part of it, and I know of 2 other stores part of it, and we do not put anything out for it. I spoke to several other store owners I hit up, and they did not even know they were part of the small shop....let alone have to pay anything for it.

Yep I had to buy some meds for my Dad at the pharmac_ and had to grab some $1 bag of jelly beans to reach the $20. Explained to the pharmacist the shop small promo and he even asked did it cost him anything? I told him not a cent!

I have used both bank issued and amex issued cards in concurrent transactions at the individual establishments only to have the amex issued card/s credit as planned and the bank issued amex not. Annoying.

We did the same in the King Valley last year. Lunch, dessert and multiple wine purchase split over multiple cards.

Another shop at local supermarket...essentials purchased:
Honey
Ice cream ($4.84 Connoisseur 1litre on special)
Beer!
24 shops to go via 3 cards!

Are their many restaurants that are on shop small and the QF restaurant list? I haven't gone through the whole list but found Pronto on Flinders and Bar Humburg.

Mumm for $28 a bottle split across 2 cards at Heathcote Hotel (NSW).

How long are credits taking for bank issued Amex cards?

I find I get an email almost instantly with Amex issued cards, but no emails/credits yet with bank issued ones. (Yes the bank issued ones are signed up to this deal).

1 to 2 days is usual for me.

Emergency trip to dentist this afternoon, after health fund rebate the bill was $104. Asked nicely if it could be split across credit cards, answer was I don't know but will try. Lovely I said here is five cards could you put $20 on 4 of them and $24 on the fifth. Very efficient receptionist did it in two minutes flat. Thanks amex for $50 towards fixing my broken tooth.

Popped into chemist, needed three items $18, $12 and $11. No way I could get these into two $20+ lots. Asked if they could be rung up together and them paid on two cards, sorry system won't allow that. Then chemist helpfully suggested she processes the $18 item plus a $2 sundry charge as one purchase and then give me a $2 discount on the other purchase. Maybe she was was feeling sorry for me because one side of my face doesn't move.

A visit to the pool shop for salt where I bought next month's supply as well meant I hit $20 so that's one month courtesy of amex. Looking like I have had a stroke probably helped when I said can you carry this to my car please and sorry it's a block away.

In a hour or so when my face returns to normal and I am able to drink without dribbling I think it's time for a pub dinner and some more credits.

As the dentist does accept AMEX, you can earn more points by not doing the health fund rebate in the surgery, but putting the whole amount on the cc. That way, you will get all the points and the shop small discount.
