Anyone still in PER for the AFF meet-up that's looking for a cafe with shop small, I recommend Toast in East Perth at Claisebrook Cove. They kindly charged me $20 and refunded the difference between my purchase and $20 in cash.

And, when I accidentally left my cookie behind and went back to get it, they gave me two.

At least some small businesses are embracing amex.

I've been to a few places on the weekend and some of the staff are showing signs of Shop Small fatigue - here's the question, how far would you push/abuse/leverage the promotion?

My wife and I went out for a bite to eat last night.
The cafe was on the shop small map and setup where you ordered and paid for your meal at the counter.

1 Went and bought two drinks $24
2 Wife bought her main course $25
3 I went and bought my main course $25

Each on a different Amex.
$30 back on the night.

Unfortunately they didn't have any desserts we liked.

I particularly like dining out during shop small while utilising 2 for 1 offers from the entertainment book. Makes for a super cheap evening. :)

I've used my cards at 4 places so far - not one of them knew what the Shop Small promo was...

The best one like that is the pub down from us. They have $10 steaks and $20 bottles of wine.

I go and order 2 steaks and pay, better half orders wine and pays themselves. Dinner and drinks for $20 all up. Happy days.

That'a the beauty of CBR - everyone's more lay back and less population with multiple cards to be processed in one hit.

Yok thai in Manly won't split bills :(
But shouldn't put you off outsidw of Shop Small-v.g

What I did for my splitting bill in a restaurant(over 13 cards) was I rocked up and pre-paid during a quiet time. (It's on the way to work)
I find restaurants will find it hard to say no to taking your money if you haven't even eaten

I have now had 4 fails with listed businesses either not taking Amex at all (2) or no refund forthcoming (2). I cannot find any contact details, does anyone have an email or address I can complain to ?

How do you know about no refund? No email?
I purchased at one listed business earlier this week and did not get an email.
I purchased at a different one today and got an email.
The offers were definitely saved to my card at amexconnect.com.au, well before the promotion started.

My main issue so far has been one business on the list no longer accepting AmEx.

Each other business has triggered a credit as expected. It's just a pity numerous meals last week were not at "small businesses".

Great weekend so far.

$100 at my local home brew store split over 5 cards = plenty of $0.50 pints at home.

2 x $40 cafe breakfasts over 4 cards = happy wife.

I was asked why I wanted to round up a $19.99 purchase to $20 at the pharmac_. Explained the $10 cash back and got a smile.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I've made multiple small shop purchases with one merchant across my 12 cards.

None of the transactions has shown up on any of my cards, hence none of the cash backs have been awarded. Transactions stretch back 2 weeks now.

I've not received any emails for this merchant either re small shop triggering.

Do I take it that every one of my transactions was never processed and are now free?

Or will they be processed many weeks later and then credit retrospectively applied.

As a further complication I'm about to cancel the card as soon as the last of my cash back is awarded.

FYI: Nothing unusual about the transactions – tap and go. Also a charcoal chicken shop which I have frequented before small shop and every previous transaction went as you would expect.

I had a 'free' taxi trip in Melbourne in similar circumstances-shame as it was reimbursable

Happened to me during last year's Shop Small campaign (November 2015) at a butcher shop and I never was billed for those steaks :D

That's right, no email. The ones who didn't accept Amex were no brainers of course.

So has anyone had any luck splitting a dentist bill using multiple cards?
What is the most common gift card purchase in this promo?
