AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 100,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

Given that current Amex card holders weren't entitled to receive the bonus points for this offer but have, I'm wondering if Amex actually stuck to the above cap for the referrers?

Can anyone enlighten?

My referrals seem to be batching once per week. I should hit 10+ this week, so will report back.

Is there any reason one would randomly receive 80,000 points on this card? Have had since 10th of July, received a points transfer of 80,668 however I was under the impression I would receive 110,000 points for signing up under someone's ref link (clearly stated 110,000 point bonus).

I only hit the $1000 spend on Friday however so would the extra 30,000 come on my bill statement perhaps? Kind of weird.

Flip back a few pages, you're most likely going to have to call. Took 4 calls until my remaining 30k showed up. My application was approved the first day of the promotion.

With "refer a friend" on AMEX (110,000 points for the referred party, 20,000 for the referrer) I get to a page where you have the choice of Facebook or Linked In to post. Is there anyway to get around this.. I was hoping just to refer the "missus" without going public. (Thought the last 70,000 VFF offer was good, clearly 100,000 or 110,00 is even better..)

The missus earns about $30k a year + $30k super contributions.. I wonder if this is enough either jointly or just her salary to get her approved? We're not fussed about how big or small the credit limit is..

My card arrived today, I used a referral link from further up in the thread from an AFF'er who is always posting useful things.

MelbMan, when you click the share on facebook button, you don't have to post anything. It will come up with a new post with the link in for you to modify and post (so they think), you can just copy the link and close the window without posting anything (that's how I got my link there).

I reckon they may be working through applications by date. I applied on 3rd July. Got the 80,000 points pretty quickly, and then the 30,000 points posted on the 29th July. I didn't phone them, they just posted.

80000 posted at $500 spend for me... later after $1000 spend the other 30000 arrived

Yes, my account hit the $1,000 before the additional 30,000 posted, but that included the annual fee. I didn't think the annual fee would be included in the "spend" requirement.

[mod hat on]

I've just had to delete several posts in this thread where members have been posting their referral links outside of the referral section. By all means, discuss the thread subject here, but DO NOT post the link here.

Activated my card on the 13th, bonus (110k) & my husband's referral points landed on the 29th. I am yet to hit the minimum spend and his card hasn't arrived yet!

smit- how are your referrals going? Not sure whether you can tell which have arrived yet?

I have the Edge, but selected Vel Plat and so far have had 3 lots of 20k points :)

Does anyone know if the reverse is true - i.e. I have the VA Plat, can I refer someone for the Plat Charge and get 20k VA points (even though that is technically meant to give MR points)?

Just signed up for this card last Sunday, got instant approval and should have my card this week, then my wife can apply and give me some more points.
I was surprised by the lack of checks for approval ? payslips etc ?

Complete N00bie question regarding the 2X lounge entries, can I use these even if I am flying with another Airline that day ?

Cheers,

Has anyone who has previously held this card (within the past 12 months) actually received the 110k points? Wife's statement just came through and we spent the $1000 minimum but no bonus points awarded... What's also strange is that the actual spend hasn't earned any points either?!

Should I wait for the second statement?

Not quite instant approval but mine came today. I'm guessing they're relying on high Veda scores to show good credit worthiness.

Yes, points have been received. In your case, given that points aren't posting on spend, I'd be phoning Amex.

Oh god, I hope not. I have a great financial situation but a terrible Veda score due to the number of applications over the past 8 months...

I'm not an expert, but everything I have ever applied for has resulted in a credit check as shown by my Veda membership. If you have just applied for another card and already have a low score, you may have to wait a while now whether this one is successful or not.

Yep, I was going to wait off for a while but this one is too good to pass up on.

It seems that different institutions weight different aspects more heavily than others. e.g. it looks like Citi (in my experience) weight the Veda score higher than NAB, Westpac who must weight more towards income / expenditure.
