Angry about proposed travel ban exemption for footballers

While kids with double lung transplants are forced to seek inferior medical treatment from new doctors because they can’t get an exemption to cross a border a few Km from their home to see their usual specialist.

But that’s ok because our foul mouthed QLD premier has clarified that QLD hospitals are for QLDers and NSW hospitals are for people living in NSW. Cool and normal.😐😐

Makes me want to hurl.
Yep exactly my point and I feel the same way @jakeseven7 .

I received a text recently that my last blood donation here in Melbourne went to a hospital in Caboolture, Qld. I thought that was a good thing. Obviously I was wrong.

Yet all coronavirus related medical expenses are being covered by the federal government.... This whole “state border” issue is absolutely disgusting, to say the least, and I honestly don’t see how we can genuinely continue as a united country after this. I’m unsure why we should continue to prop up certain states after their premiers behavior.

After seeing what’s happened in VIC and NSW, I’m happily living in QLD. 😀

It’s a real shame that a few fools, who don’t play by the rules, just muddy the waters for the rest. ☹
But in this Covid world we know it only takes one! And the pack of cards comes tumbling down.

Cool story bro.....I'm happily living in QLD as well but that doesn't mean that our foul mouthed premier is being a leader of any great calibre at the moment which is really disappointing for us.

I'd appreciate these (daily), personal attacks to be less personal and concentrate on the actions not the person.
Yes. Although, personal attacks on fellow-AFF members should be reported for Moderator action.

Edit: Sorry, maybe you were actually referring to unfortunate comments made along political lines? And, the Ignore Button is your friend. 😀

I was referring to the constant references such as, "foul mouthed premier" etc. Mine was a reply to that latest comment.

Port Adelaide players investigated for potential breach of AFL's virus protocols

Port Adelaide players Peter Ladhams and Dan Houston are being investigated by the AFL over a potential breach of the league's COVID-19 protocols.

Sources close to the situation confirmed an investigation related to an event on the night of Monday, August 3 in which Ladhams invited several guests over to his house following Port's win over the Western Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval.

So Adelaide is bidding for the AFL finals series. SA also has a complete ban on anyone coming into SA from Victoria, even its own residents. If you are granted an exemption then you must isolate for 14 days and take 2 covid tests. One immediately and one at 12 days.

So assuming SA gets the rights to hold it, what has SA Premier promised the AFL? In the proposal the AFL head bods are likely going to be able to fly over for the GF and not have to follow any of the restrictions that anyone else has to do (of course they say subject to approval by our CMO but that is pretty meaningless as Premier can override and has done so before.) So no isolation and no Covid test requirement. Maybe its a moot point by October but the Premier is not winning any brownie points today with Joe Public. And he refuses to say just how many people that will mean can freely come over here.

It's all getting a bit too much like Animal Farm (the book, not the Mad Monday activities) for me.

I have not seen the proposal. As you have access to it does it actually state that people residing in Vic can fly in, or is just AFL officials from the AFL Bubble?

I ask this as in early Sept the main AFL head bods including AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan and other hangers-on such as particular sporting journalists fly up to Qld for a 14 day quarantine and will enter an AFL bubble. Presumably that will include twice weekly checking, but they still will not be mixing with any clubs. So by mid-Sep they will be able to fly to any state that allows travel with Qld.

My presumption is that they are doing this so that they can participate in the finals in October and to remove any travel restrictions taht may still be applying to Victorians residing in Victoria.

PS. Hopefully the Vic Case Case will be done to zero well before 24 October, which is two months, anyway. If not then I am going to really be climbing the walls by then ;)

Only 25k permitted and the border restrictions will still apply. Commentators will be calling the game from the studio or home like they are now. Pretty much not a lot of difference to now.
WA has also bid on it with 60k capacity and no interstate fans etc

Yes. But none of that applies to the AFL heads. They clearly dont get covid.

"Sports VIPs such as AFL boss Gillon McLachlan and “key stakeholders” may be given exemptions from the 14-day quarantine if the State Government’s pitch for the Grand Final is successful.
As Premier Steven Marshall prepares to make his bid to Mr McLachlan and AFL leadership on Thursday for the finals, he revealed exemptions may be part of the deal.

While some workers such as broadcast technicians coming from interstate would be required to quarantine, the game’s top echelon may be given a free pass to fly in, stay at the Adelaide Oval hotel, enjoy the game, then fly home.

“We are still working through some of the arrangements today for VIPs and key stakeholders,” Mr Marshall said.

He said he would leave any final decision to SA Health experts and it would be based on safety, rather than seniority."

Thank you.

Though AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan will be in Qld from September 1. Out of isolation 14 days later. So unless he catches CV19 up there he would not need an exemption.

Thats interesting. The GF finals are around 17 or 24th October. Do you know if he expects to stay up there all that time? Its curious he is leaving Victoria but I guess there is no footy in Melbourne. I think Qld deserves the GF because without them there would not have been a season at all. SA refused to have a hub.

Well I do not know. But I doubt he would go through 14 days of isolation just fora quick vist.

Finals will be an important time for him and this would allow him to visit both Qld and SA. Plus possibly WA

Port Adelaide should finish Top 4 and so that will earn them a home final in either week 1 or 2, and maybe more. They could end up hosting a Preliminary Final in SA.

WA will be problematic unless they change their current stricter 14 day quarantine. They got around it in the home and away by having 2 teams fly in, play in a bubble, and then the two local WA teams on the following 2 weeks. Cannot do that in finals though as games are decided by the previous winners.

So unless WA follows SA lean you would expect no finals for them based on what is currently occurring.

And yes you would imagine that the GF would go to Qld to reward the effort up there. Mind you many hotels and other businesses have benefited and thousands of employees have been kept in work as a result.
