Angry about proposed travel ban exemption for footballers

Well I do not know. But I doubt he would go through 14 days of isolation just fora quick vist.

Finals will be an important time for him and this would allow him to visit both Qld and SA. Plus possibly WA

Port Adelaide should finish Top 4 and so that will earn them a home final in either week 1 or 2, and maybe more. They could end up hosting a Preliminary Final in SA.

WA will be problematic unless they change their current stricter 14 day quarantine. They got around it in the home and away by having 2 teams fly in, play in a bubble, and then the two local WA teams on the following 2 weeks. Cannot do that in finals though as games are decided by the previous winners.

So unless WA follows SA lean you would expect no finals for them based on what is currently occurring.

And yes you would imagine that the GF would go to Qld to reward the effort up there. Mind you many hotels and other businesses have benefited and thousands of employees have been kept in work as a result.
And WA has the issue with Optus Stadium with Telstra being the main AFL sponsor.

I doubt that is a real issue though for if there was no Covid 19 there probably would be a final there depending exactly where WCE will have finished (ie earnt a home final). WCE hosted an Elimination Final at Optus Stadium in 2019.

For the Grand Final the AFL would want certainty and at present WA is not prepared to offer that. All the other finals can be organised at much shorter notice. But the GF needs lead time.

No real issue with that.
The AFL is desperate for money and it’s a huge coincidence they announced the date of Oct 24th which just happens to be the day McGowan is lifting some restrictions. 60k at Perth compared to 25k in Adelaide or Brisbane. That’s a lot of money to leave on the table

Thank you.

Though AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan will be in Qld from September 1. Out of isolation 14 days later. So unless he catches CV19 up there he would not need an exemption.

I'm sure Anna will SLAM DOWN THE RED CARPET and invite him to her daily morning tea to try and persuade him to schedule it here :)

Anna will be desperate as her election is on October 31st.
I don't vote in Australia, and generally keep out of politics anywhere. I am not a fan of Australian labor. But I think "Anna" is well backed in her border stance, etc. by a great majority of her electorate and Queensland in general. Now that I am temporarily residing in SE Queensland, I want that border shut hard, as she is doing. I know that borders are not perfect in a state-defined sense, but any borders are good, in my opinion, in combating a pandemic.

How do you propose to stop the cases on your side of the border?
On topic - the look of footballers flying about is starting to annoy people - particularly when they keep breaching their own “boyosecurity” plans - but I expect the breaches will be hushed up a bit as we get towards the finals

I think in any pandemic the first step, and the most important, is preventing them to start with. I just do not understand why it is a bad thing to put a "fence" of sorts between areas with clear large case numbers and somewhere with almost none...

I might be wrong on facts.

Do you realise that none of the cases creating noteworthy Qld clusters have been introduced by interstate residents? So what is the point of the fence when returning Queensland residents seem to be the ones bringing it to Qld?

I choose to not argue, and move on....

Maybe because logically the virus will attach itself to people (QLD residents or not) who enter QLD from other infected States so keeping infected people from those other States out is actually a very sensible and effective measure ? IMO most Queenslanders agree with keeping the borders closed, jealousy of residents of other States notwithstanding !!!

Hardly an issue - a number of competitions/sporting organisations either have clean stadium requirements or contractual obligations. For example Optus is called Perth Stadium for the cricket, and HBF Park is called Perth Rectangular Stadium for FIFA/AFC matches.
