Another data point: applied Sun night (17/8/14), got referred, asking for income verification; emailed info staight away. On 20/8/14, rang ANZ to ask for update, and told no info available as yet. Rang today (22/8/14) and told black card approved on 21/8/14, and card in the post today so should get on 25/8/14. Can't complain...will put the $1500 spend on it straight away, probably WOW gift cards at 5% off...easiest 50K QF pts earnt. Thanks all for the info above :)

Finally up and running with the Black. I notice ANZ appears to be in the stone ages where details of authorisations do not appear in online banking. Bankwest immediately shows all authorisations, including the name of the merchant. This may be a short marriage.....

Swings and roundabouts. CBA has instant "pending charges" so you can see up to the minute transaction. However, they provide zero detail on award points and lump sum it once a month......I prefer the ANZ model of clearly showing point earn by line.

I've been trying to think of how to spend the $1,500, but I don't think I could spend anyway near that much at WOW in 12 months. Any other ideas on good ways to spend without really spending? (which this would be if you shopped enough with WOW)

With Bankwest, I spend $1000 and I get 1000 points. It is not too hard to work out. With ANZ, I can be overcharged, undercharged, not charged at all, double charged etc and not know about it exactly until days later. I can have more than twenty authorisations going at any one time, so it is difficult to spot an error. As I will only be using the Black AMEX (and Bankwest for non AMEX purchases), I spend $1000 and I will get 1500 points (with the possible exception of QF purchases).

The authorisation feature was particularly handy when QF were double authorising on MASA bookings a while back.

It always bugged me that CBA would do a monthly dump of 150k over to my QFF account without a single text of explanation. ANZ system is clunky but I'm loving the fact I can see my point harvest with 20:20 vision.

use Amex for xmas gift cards?

WOW and Coles are no brainers eh. Buy the gift cards at 5% off! then buy gift cards in store when they have discounts, usually 10% but sometimes more, and a $100 Kathmandu gift card as a Xmas present suddenly becomes $85.

btw off topic but Coles cards can be had at 5% off at unionshopper.com.au (if your a union member!).

Late to the game...just applied today, and got the 'referred' message. Expecting to be asked to send through all the income details, etc on Monday so I doubt I'll make the deadline for approval by the 26th, but hopefully they still give me the offer because I applied before the deadline. Fingers crossed!

Hi,

I have successfully applied for a basic frequent flier card.

I am thinking that I really could do with the platinum card as I like the travel insurance.

I am a little confused as to whether other posters have successfully applied for a basic card and a platinum in this promotion and actually got the cards.
