Are Jetstar really that bad??

Let's hope that Jetstar has sorted some of its 788 woes
Well who knows exactly why they cancel. "Operational reasons" is very vague. Cancellations because they can save $$$ by not operating a flight when they can flick off passengers to spare spots on associated airlines also fits...

Has anyone been flicked from JQ J to QF J?

Well certainly not me.

However, I've now booked my new JQJ flight from MEL to SIN (via BKK) for November. I will stay in Bangkok overnight and maybe fly on to SIN for a bit of fun. Will return to SYD from BKK on a QFJ award ticket (already booked) after a few days stay in a nice apartment I've used before. I have to thank JQ for being so awful that it forced me to rethink the whole thing.

As an aside, I was quite impressed with how easy it was for me to find business class awards through UA and QF on more or less the dates I wanted. Quite strange really, as the UA award I found was the only one available for my itinerary for the whole month of May. I guess you have to be lucky sometimes.

At the moment, most cancellations are due to lack of crew, mainly cabin crew. It’s the price they pay for employing such a large number of casuals. The next reason would be engineering. This weekend will be a good weekend not to fly Jetstar.

Fluff piece on Channel 7 news tonight. New Jetstar CEO talking about how she loves her job.
Wonder how often she flies with them and not Qantas??

You know that most don't care about anything further than Plan A. It's only the neurotics like us that lurk in AFF that do🤣👍. But then we don't need to TikTok how JQ is bad - after the fact. 🤣

Last year, when I was running down some QF credits, I got into the habit of booking a refundable or award VA flight as a back-up each time. I recall once I cancelled the VA flight as doors closed on QF and the refund was on my card later same day!

Had a quick long weekend trip down to Hobart (from Melbourne) in JQ (QF reward ticket). Flight on Thursday night was cancelled, so was the next flight. Only option was to be rebooked the following day. Called QF and they got us on a QF flight same-day thankfully.

Then coming back from Hobart, our flight was delayed 3 times. Certainly a bad time to fly during the easter holidays. Thankful that Qantas could assist us.

Got a friend stuck in Seoul due to two cancelled flights back to Melbourne too. So not limited to Domestic travel it seems...

If she does fly their own metal, I'm sure *different* flights just "happen" to be the ones cancelled for operational reasons ...

My son has a JQ flight to Seoul in May. Then connecting the next day to a Korean air flight to Mongolia.
Fingers crosse that it goes well.

Good luck to your lad.
25% chance that he will be in your backyard ... on the day of travel ... :)

I can't trust JQ for international flights anymore, so no more overseas flights with them from now on.

So my son is booked d* JQ813 Bne > Syd next monday morning 08.15 sch , Y 27def .
2 Adults, a young boy , a baby and all their gear ( they are ex US)

I am delivering them to the airport
What is the minimum safe time to arrive and any tips that may help with this carrier choice...

What is the minimum safe time to arrive
Whatever airport arrival time, note the bag drop only open 2hrs before the flight.
Check the carry on allowances.
Note the boarding gate closes 15 min before the scheduled departure

BYO infant F&B - this counts toward carry on allowance of the family as infants don't have a carry on allowance. In fact everything an infant needs in the cabin counts toward carry on -nappies etc
However, infant strollers, prams, car seats are carried FOC in addition to any checked allowance that the family has

Plan for delays and cancellations - especially nappies and infant change of clothes. Maybe add a days worth as a backup

Other than Qs(thanks) there was no response to my question which probably reflects the reputation of the carrier.
My son was advised at 3am on sunday that their 8 am flight on monday had been cancelled.
Having had little sleep in the last 30 hours ex sfo, he was thrilled to be scanning solutions at 3am
Rex to the rescue, and they all had a successful transfer to sidderney this morning
He will, of course never book another d* ticket.. how long before whatever credibility they had is completely lost
