Are Jetstar really that bad??

I have always had a great, no-frills service by Jetstar domestic, albeit from Sydney to Melbourne (Avalon) several times each year. I can only recall a couple of delayed flights for me in the past 10 years, and mostly due to bad weather. I think a batch of ducks flew into it one of those times.

I do wish they had a domestic business class on the Syd>Avalon route though, or if Virgin Business did the same route.

1F and a max bundle and you'll essentially get the same service 😅

She doesn’t come across as someone who fills me with much confidence listening to that. She said Jetstar has 789s. 😵‍💫

She said Qantas have just taken delivery of new 789's.

That's what I thought initially, but a bit further on, she refers to 'our 789s flying to ... '. Then I thought she was referring to 'Qantas group', but she was contrasting JQ routes to Qantas (5:07)

Some of you may have helped me in previous threads looking for a way home from Vancouver, some suggested via Hawaii which is exactly what we have decided to do.
Now, I see flights with Jetstar are half the price of Hawaiian Airlines but I am wondering if I should just pay the $2K extra and go with Hawaiian ??
The flight isn't at a great time either, 8:30am I don't find an appealing time while on vacation, meaning we need to be at the airport with two kids at 5:30am,
I flew JetStar from Sydney to Honolulu last year. It was $520 AUD IIRC return on a Plus fare which included one checked bag and a meal (along with 70 SCs and some QFF points for the trouble). I will concede that yes it may not be as nice in terms of service as a Hawaiian or a major legacy carrier. But you need to ask yourself, what are you getting in return for the additional money spent? Perhaps a slightly better departure time, maybe a slightly better food on board. But to be quite frank, unless you are travelling business class (which has lie flat seats) you won't really notice.

One nice thing flying JQ as a QF Gold member was I had access to the QF Lounge both in SYD and HNL (the latter operated by Delta Airlines at the time).
Jetstar is fine but you do get what you pay for. You won't get any food, service or drinks on board without paying extra. Their 787s are more comfortable but I've even found the a330s are tolerable for an 8-10 hour flight when it's cheap enough. Take some food or expect to pay for it on board then use the ~2K savings for a nicer holiday on the ground (or even just save the money) and you're unlikely to regret it.

Edit: oh, don't forget to check costs including baggage. Sometimes it's not too different from full service carriers if you haven't already included those costs.
This is where you want to be on the lookout for specials and to see what the cost of a Plus fare is. Yes it'll cost a bit more than the starter fare but can be worthwhile if you have a bag to check, want a meal on board and want to earn some QFF for your trouble.
It may be delayed?
It really depends on where it gets delayed/cancelled from. If from HNL, then it's really good. Since they now have to pay for you to have an additional day of vacation (i.e. hotel, meals, etc.). Plus if you miss work, you get to claim that back to JetStar as part of the Montreal Convention 1999 (MC99), claim process given it is an international flight between two MC99 signatory countries. I've said it before here and I'll say it again, every time an airline has cancelled or delayed my flight, they have paid for it in terms of cash compensation, longer routings (resulting in me earning more SCs), pushing back award travel dates to the dates I wanted, or forcing all sectors to go business on an award.

and have no intention to ever fly with them again

Whilst I wouldn't say I'd never travel with them again, they're definitely very very very low on the list now. Maybe only in cases of emergency or no other option.

A year ago I did a MEL-SYD return trip with them and the experience on both flights sealed the deal for me. Absolute clowns.

Yes but what if you've got a $36 return fare between Sydney and Perth as I did? Money talks folks. People will say they never will fly an airline until a crazy sale fare drops!

Nope.
I’m in a very good position financially these days and if they paid me $1000 I still wouldn’t get on one ever again.
I’m happy to pay whatever the cost to avoid them

I recently discovered a 2016 email which I had sent to Hertz rental cars. It was a strongly worded demand to remove me from their mailing list as I was never using their services again. I discovered the email because I recently used their service. They were $200 cheaper than everyone else. Sorry Jase, but I'm a cheapskate.
