Oh, how sweet the victory - it was only 4 months ago that we were in England's position now...

My point was that it was currently raining when you posted that based on the time stamp of the post.

The state of the sky at that time clearly indicated rain.

Sheesh. Are you saying that you know better than I do whether it is raining at my house? Good grief. Maybe I should have taken a photo. But then, you'd start arguing I had somehow doctored that too.

Nothing better than beating the poms. Definitely another crushing win. Who would have thought after the England tour that this would be the position now. Prior to this series it was almost a case of 'England by how many'. Amazing what Australia can do when they play to their potential. Warner, Haddin and Clarke have lifted with good contributions by Rogers and Bailey. And the courageous selection of Johnson, now a genius move. He with Warner have been the greatest improvers. A few years ago Johnson could barely land the ball on the pitch, now he has the poms on the run. Still a question mark over Smith and Watson but unlikely to be any changes for Perth barring injury.

Pity didn't put a few bucks on Australia for this leg of the ashes several months ago... Still not sure if its a big improvement by Australia or the Pom's have dropped off substantially...

Enough. We won. That's the end of that.

Ah, yes we did win. But I am always going to post when my honesty has been called into disrepute, or when someone posts something that is patently absurd, win or loss. ;) And I am sure you would be the same. So probably not your call to make.

To be fair, I probably would be the same.

Anyway....glad that the weather held out. Worst thing that can happen is a wash out of a result that seemed very much in the bag. Certainly praying for weather to "save" one's hide isn't very noble (yes this also applies to times Australia was in the drink).

Someone with cricket knowledge: can someone please elaborate on what has been dubbed a blunder made by Broad re: his 2nd innings dismissal?

Bowlers actually don't mind being hit for six - once - as this always opens the possibility of a miss hit next time round and a wicket. Which it did! Success going to the head and all that!

Gotta laugh at some of the comments on that article ;)

Big Mick, Adelaide, 18 minutes agoI reckon Beefy Botham was spot on when he made his 5-0 prediction !!!!

Agree with others that the Australian attack was pretty blunt today. The pitch is very quickly turning into a fast bowlers graveyard, very slow and low. If the 2nd new ball doesn't get the wickets then the responsibility will fall onto Lyon as the main spinner, and he bowled rubbish today - wrong line and too short all day even though there is plenty of spin. Could be another slow grind of a day if they don't get early wickets - weather permitting.
I am not getting too carried away with this victory. We should win 5-0 but the only thing it solves is not losing 4 Ashes series in a row.

England shouldnt have a chance in Perth but I would like to see England bat first in Melbourne and Sydney and put a total of around 300 on the board and then watch Australia bat and if they have the same confidence.

The tour of South Africa in February 2014 should be interesting.

So who's going to have a punt on the Pom's for the third test...?

Match betting
Australia 1.75 Draw 4.75 England 3.60

Draw No Bet
Australia 1.40 England 2.90

Double Chance
Australia & England 1.20 Australia & Draw 1.30 England & Draw 2.00

Sportsbet odds 9/12/13

i wouldn't write England off in Perth...our batting is also a bit brittle and we also can succumb to a bit of pace and seam bowling!!

...
5-0 ONLY if Mitchell Johnson can stay in one piece ... his bowling figures from the 80 overs are currently a phenomenal 17 wickets for 216 runs at an average of 12.7.

The Poms bowling is looking very 'military medium' at present.

The Australian attack without moustachioed Mitch would only be marginally better.

The English played Johnson quite well yesterday.

Harris is a class bowler with a classy average. Johnson is very good when he bowls well but then he can also start to bowl them to the left and bowl them to the right. You know the rest.

I fear that in the future the PER Test highlights will be up their with The Hammer House of Horror classics. Definitely not for the faint hearted pom I suspect.

A different scenario. If it is going to be so hot in Perth then perhaps the bowling won't be such a factor. WACA hasn't been quite so wicked in recent years.

If England pulls off a win in Perth then it is 2:1 and all they need is another win and a draw in Melbourne or Sydney and they retain the Ashes.

You got to give them some hope. ;)

I think the English are mentally beaten. The self belief is gone. Australia is getting stronger with each session.
