Re: First Ashes Test - live TR

Game play and construction site still at Adelaide oval today. Not sure if my seat will be installed before the test match starts ;)

It's about to get very wet!

Re: First Ashes Test - live TR

Don't think we will get too much of a delay, storm is likely to miss it to the south.

Re: First Ashes Test - live TR

Impressive storm. The TV kept showing Billie Birmingham. Not really entertaining and doesn't keep in character when in ad lib mode. I just wanted to see the storm.

It was pretty good, not sure what it would have been like for those not on the fringe like the gabba, hail was pea sized.

Re: First Ashes Test - live TR

Six wickets to go and Mother Nature threatening to reign in the victory.

Guess the English are starting to think, "This feels a bit more like home."

Australia need to attack hard.

Re: First Ashes Test - live TR

It looked really black just before the storm. Then, being QLD - bright sunshine about 30 minutes later. Their concern at the moment is outright pooling of water about 20 metres from the pitch.

Might be round 2 in 30-45 minutes.

Re: First Ashes Test - live TR

Just as well it did not hail at Ashgrove.

Sunshine, hot and humid, cloudy, cold, storms for ~10-15 mins, sunshine, cloudy again and more rain. We went through all 4 seasons + a season I have not seen before.

Re: First Ashes Test - live TR

Of course there is sledging and sledging.
Was reminded in the press this weekend of some of Freddie Trueman's best.
Fielding in the deep in an Ashes test near to the visitors gate.his words to the incoming batsman-don't bother shutting it lad,ye'll be going back that way soon enough.

The only thing I could think of that might take a little of pup's sledge was whether there was a history from the series in England.

Microphones certainly should make sports people think.Did anyone hear what Jason Day's caddy said coming up the 18th fairway on Sunday?Very appropriate but would come with an R warning.

Re: First Ashes Test - live TR

There has always been sledging in the game. Amazing what some cricketers have said over the years. ;) The difference now is that we get to hear about it through the media. The "old game" used to be "what happens in the field, stays in the field". ;)

To be honest I think it is difficult for the players to remember all this in the heat of the play. As long as it isn't racist then really, maybe it belongs. But the media has messed all that up.

Bit off topic, but some of the best sledges of all time. Merv Hughes features prominently.

MERV HUGHES AND VIV RICHARDS
During a Test match in the Caribbean, burly moustachioed warrior Hughes was attempting his usual intimidation, staring at Richards after following through. Richards offered the following cultural advice: "This is my island, my culture. Don't you be staring at me. In my culture we just bowl." Hughes saved his response until he claimed the champion's wicket. "In my culture we just say f--- off.".
