ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

so what do you guys usually do with the points accumulated? what do you usually redeem it on to get the most out of them? because say if my ato is 100k, i get 150,000 QFF points.. but i will also pay 1.5k surcharge, so is it worth it in the end?

Well, as an example, for 139000 points you can fly Melbourne to London in business class. Up to you if you think that is worth the (nearly) $1.5k CC surcharge. Most on this forum would suggest it is worth it.

I use mine to fly myself and my family all over the world in the pointy end.

The fee can be tax deductible, there's lots of posts on this on AFF and its also on the ATO website.

This thread has allowed me to earn literally millions of points. Do I think it's worth it.

Oh yes :)

Just applied online for the Westpac Altitude Black with no issues, and got a credit limit 50% higher than any of my other cards just by ticking the box that said maximum.
Admittedly I am an existing Westpac cardholder, embarrassingly an old GM Card from Holden that I had a couple of automatic payments on that I was too slack to move, so perhaps that made things easier.
This is in reference to a prior post that mentioned difficulties getting approved for the Westpac card.
I got approved in about 30 seconds and by the time I'd navigated back to the credit card part of my online account the new card was already listed on there. Impressive.
Now to pay a few nasty bills.

Are most folks using a combo of the Altitude Black and Earth Black to alllow earning for non-QFF and QFF programs?

Yes that is a pretty good plan seeing the titanium blades of my 3M scissors are ready to snip up 3 direct Amex cards that are now totally useless for paying ATO bills.
I have 3 flights to get and upgrade to the other coast before the snip.

haha wasnt planning on.. thats why i came here to ask. so pretty much 1.5 QFF points for 1 dollar spent on AMEX?

oh and is there anyway to check if the points are being credited properly with the diamond card?

Use MCARD or VISA @ .48% much better value

One of my capped cards (visa) that pays a point a dollar has just come out of the capping limit. Now what bill should I put on it seeing it stops paying points at $200,000 spend. I had better do a tester to see they do still pay points on ATO. $960 in ATO fees for 200,000 QF points looks pretty good these days.

mmmmmm....like the sound of those scissors. Gotta get me a pair of those.........I'll practice on the wife's cards first, though. ;-)

So is it better to pay using CBA diamond MasterCard or Amex??

Depends whether your priority is to get lots of points or cheap points. If you already have more QFF points than you can possibly use, then cheap points would be the go. If you need more points in a hurry you can still get good value by using the Amex.

i guess cheap points would be the way to go then with diamond.. because its capped at 1m points anyway... any other cards people will use for ato payments that have similar rewards?

btw appreciate all the help here :)

Get a WW QANTAS EDR MASTERCARD ....1 point per dollar.....no capping....16,000 points on sign up....$89 pa.....pretty good value

Be careful with the woolworths card. Too much ato spend on this one and they will cancel it on you. Small Business spend ok, but be careful. Read my other posts for more information

Does "too much" mean too frequent ? Or too large an amount ?
