ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Re: Credit cards and FF points for ATO transactions

I haven't heard of the 'enhancement' of the EDR MC points. Hidden in some fine print?

I'd use the Velocity AMEX but the cost of using the card with the ATO is three times that for using MC/VISA (1.45% vs 0.42%). That can add up a bit.

Have they announced this change for existing customers or is it only new? I'm still uncapped as far as I can see. The new cards are a VISA with this limitation.

I will be cancelling it if that is true.

It applies to existing as well. Check your March statement, the note mentioning the cap should be down the bottom on the last page. Yes, time to move on from EDR...

I made the first moves today to get an alternative and say bye-bye EDR at the end of the current cycle. A 2.5K cap is just plain nuts.

My Westpac Krisflyer CC statement today had bad news (as also posted against that card). May need to revise my strategy, at 1.25 points not sure this worth the 1.48% fee.

EFFECTIVE 1 APRIL 2015, THE EARN RATE ON THE
SINGAPORE AIRLINES WESTPAC PLATINUM AMERICAN
EXPRESS CARD IS CHANGING AND YOU WILL EARN 1.25
KRISFYLER MILES PER AUD$1 SPENT ON ELIGIBLE
PURCHASES USING THAT CARD. THERE WILL BE NO CHANGES
TO THE EARN RATE ON YOUR SINGAPORE AIRLINES WESTPAC
PLATINUM VISA CARD.

When there is precious few alternative (for KF, that is), we can moan & groan but ..... back to QFF ?

BLACK is now dead & buried. Citi did a runner unannounced a long time ago.

Where's a decent competition ?

With globalisation why can't anyone allow us to access foreign-based CCs ? I know Cove did but that's not possible for most of us.

Well I have been checking my statements and I am presently uncapped. However, I am still waiting for JAN 2015 to arrive in the post.

I guess that I am starting to research my options should the change be implemented.

I'm keeping a close eye on my statements.

You will become capped. The statements were updated around 20th Jan. I called and the change is ment to take place after your statement is issued in march.

Re: Credit cards and FF points for ATO transactions

Please correct me if I am wrong, PerthTraveller, but it looks to me like the ANZ Platinum Rewards does not earn FF points, just rewards points that can be redeemed from the ANZ Rewards Shop. ANZ Rewards Platinum - Platinum Credit Cards | ANZ

But if you mean the ANZ FF Platinum, there is a cap of $6,000 per statement period... ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum - Platinum Credit Cards | ANZ

So that leaves the ANZ FF Black as the uncapped ATO FF points earning card in the ANZ portfolio... ANZ Frequent Flyer Black | ANZ

Hope this helps.

ANZ Rewards points can be transferred to VA, SQ, NZ, CX.
Rates aren't good though eg 2250 Rewards points = 1000 Velocity.

For SQ it a 3:1 ratio. so works out to be 1pt:$1 for Amex.

ANZ Rewards Black | ANZ

Wow didn't notice that both platinum and black have same earn rate for amex but Plat visa is 1.5pt:$1 and black is 2pt:$1, which doesn't matter if you're going to use amex for ATO. Should have compared this before applying for black :(

Or you can do the NAB velocity premium but no warehousing of points, but trade of is you get nearly 10% more pts

I guess you could earn VA points with CBA, wait for another of the 25% bonus on transfer offer from Virgin and then you get about 1.38 KF points per $1 spent on CBA Amex.

Which I guess makes CBA Diamond Velocity a better option than NAB Velocity Premium that sweeps to VA every month?

Also CBA Diamond is currently fee-free in the first year: https://www.commbank.com.au/personal/credit-cards/awards/diamond.html

Unless I have missed / miscalculated something?

Hope this helps.

Don't forget CBA diamond still works on 1.5 QFF for $1 for Amex
So remind me, I'm a CBA customer with a HL package, currently have a Plat card included which I dont use. I seem to remember you could get the Diamond either cheap or free with a package?

Am still not convinced I would do this unless it is free, 1.25 SQ is still probably worth more than 1.5 QF to me.

Diamond ATO payments still work as does Paltinum

Amex cost for ATO is 1.45% or thereabouts for 1.5 QFF points

How often does the transfer bonus happen?

15% bonus offer in Oct 13 - from my Velocity account statement
15% bonus offer in Nov 14 - from an email to me from Velocity
10% bonus + 10% off reward seats offer in May 14- from an email to me from Velocity

Interestingly enough, CBA participated in the 10% bonus offer, but not the 15% one.

Can't find any emails about the 25% offer, but they did do it at least once, so may have been before 2013, so I would hope for maybe getting a 15% bonus in Oct/Nov, maybe more (25%?) if they are keen...

But, I guess I would expect or hope for, but not rely on, another bonus transfer offer from Velocity, which CBA may or may not participate in.

Hope this helps.
