ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Based on the 18 likes so far I'm guessing you guys are interested

I need to make a few enquiries regarding whether the monies would need to be held in trust (I assume so), whether an AFSL is required, GST applicability (which there would certainly be on the fees, just need clarification on whether it would apply to the payments as it won't be a government entity taking the payment like the RBA), etc. etc. but it seems there is indeed a market for this.

Other low-risk payees could be added such as utility companies (many don't take Amex, or your card company gives you poor points on these too).

I might put a surveymonkey together to guage the frequency and size of transactions from those interested to help the business case. Stay tuned.

Super Funds / Super Clearing Houses.

FWIW, I made a 5 five figure tax payment with my ANZ Frequent Flyer Black visa yesterday and the points, at 0.75 per $, had posted when I checked today. Hope this helps...

I thought I might have gone a bit too far when they delayed my points post so I thought of all the times I had ever been greedy......and then the points posted from my WOW MAC card into QF.

Are credit card complanies allowed to specifically deny award point payments when their CC's are being used to pay certain companies? i.e. this one you're thinking about creating? Does this make sense?

Yes they can..........NAB Qantas AMEX did so to me very recently half way through the billing cycle.....treated the payments as cash advances - was not happy as no notification.....it got waived but never making those payments via that card again.

No, they can't. Doesn't stop them though.

Yes, they could block this merchant, however if using a facility such as PayPal, or any number of the other tier-2 payment gateways, they would in effect be blocking points on all PayPal transactions. This would be unlikely. You could also change the merchant details regularly to be really tricky.

At the end of the day, this is why it would be a private offer initially. We don't want to be a victim of our own success...

Ahh, I see. That would keep them on their feet.

Hi guys, interested in velocity points - got a $17k HECS debt to pay, which card (don't mind amex/visa) should I use? Currently got citibank signature + plat edge amex. Happy to get a 3rd card with good velocity earn rates. Cheers guys

This system would then earn double the rate that Amex pay for ato too then? Interesting. I would be interested, as I may become a contractor from mid year.

Would someone plse tell me which ATO portal to use as my mate's given me a slip of paper w' his amount due, the biller code and EFT code, but I'm not which portal is best. Plan on using the WOW card as my statement end is 13 March.

Government easy pay is OK right?

Looks like it must be down was saying the same thing to me with another bank's card this morning. Hopefully they get it working again quickly :)

I think issue might be limited to certain banks. I was trying to spread the love around & tried a small one on my DC MasterCard over the day with same link down error. I'd called ATO web helpline and they weren't aware of any problems & weren't inclined to investigate despite payment not working when they tried manually over the phone.

Ended up putting it all through CBA on web which worked fine - although the website was slower than usual to click over to the payment confirmation & receipt # page.

Hope this helps some of you with alternatives get payments through on time.
