ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Thought the limit was 6500 per transaction and not month ?

Amex wording:-

Cash payments are limited to AUD$6,500 or the outstanding balance as shown on your current Account Statement, whichever is the lesser blah, blah......... A $2 processing fee will apply, blah,blah.......

I've taken that as once a month......has anyone actually tested this theory?

As much as anything, I suspect it is an AML / CTF requirement (or someone's interpretation of such).

The question is if it is coming from your bank account via EFTPOS, is it still considered a cash payment?

Hmm. At $995 a time, to pay 700k you be spending a good # of your life. You'd need to be on 1.5 ppd to even start thinking it was worth it, I'd happily forgo the extra points for sanity and time, but there may be a new secret of which I am not aware.

in the end we all play the game to the extent which we can be bothered. I won't be loading and unloading gift cards for points but I wish all the luck to those who do manage to beat the system while it lasts.

I'm with you on this one, I love the pursuit of points but I have to draw the line if it starts to be a hassle and $600K a year to the ATO via gift cards sounds like a hassle. Sorry if i've got this wrong but I haven't read the whole thread.

So I'm just using Citi sig select for the ATO but good luck to everyone that's putting in the effort.

On a positive note I am still getting 6 points per $ on Amex through one of my suppliers which given the enhancements to the points system seems like deal of the century. Problem is I only spend about $50K a year with them but still 300,000 points for a 50k spend its a good deal :)

I'm with you on this one - there's got to be a line somewhere. If only these cards didn't have a load limit though... :-)

Is that a system error? Or some sort of crazy-good deal/scheme?

Not an error they asked me if I wanted to join this "alliance scheme"3 years ago, I nearly bit their hand off !! They even pay the annual card fee on the Amex to encourage me to stick with it lol I am amazed its still going

Wow, lucky you! Sure you can't find a way to spend more with them?? :)

EDIT: Hah, my 1,000th post! Rather appropriate that it's in this thread too :D

As someone who is trying to explore the uses of a "certain eftpos gift card*" I couldn't agree with you more. As someone earlier said half a point is always going to be half a point.
And the costs in actual dollars, time and risk would make the use of such a card for such an amount uneconomic I'd reckon

*you can work it out.....there are enough requests coming in to make it wise for me to encode these references. I suggest others take note of the requests of the possibly more experienced amongst us

Could we buy something from this supplier of yours?

Organic dunny paper ?

Tibetan fresh air ?

At 6:1 earn rate, it should not matter !

You could buy some very nice extraction forceps or the very latest root canal equipment lol

They're called Dentsply and supply dental equipment so it's a bit of a niche market I'm afraid

I have noted a certain keenness to pay the ATO early and in full on an appropriate credit card or two. My self diagnosis says we are not totally mad as we get ready to go J,J,First,First and J in a round the world over 20 days.
I have noticed our tax paying group seem to be loading up the A345 all business class SQ plane to Los Angeles...our plane seems to have 87 of the 100 seats booked on the SIN-LAX run. Now that is up a lot from 33 a year ago.
