ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

yet more people living the dream... as for myself its PAYG and GST time again, I'm looking forward to the points which if my calculations are correct will be more than enough for some J fun on my way to SYD in a months time...

And yes, the country keeps running for a few seconds longer in the process he he

Edit: Cove, you need to educate me in the KF/SQ game me thinks, since QF81/QF82 dead, its all SQ from here on, and QFF points pretty much useless for that route now

we can learn it together ;). I am tinkering around with Kris Flyer. Mainly to stop points expiring so far. I have tried a couple of (unsuccessful) partner bookings. Will keep trying. So far I have been very loyal to Q and the domestic service is great but international from RAds?....phoey

I only fly Qantas domestic because of superior flight choices, the rest of the story is for another thread..

It's easy:

1) Put expense on SQ earning CC, and probably earn more points than you would have on a QF earning CC.

2) Search for an award flight on the SQ website, and actually find more than one J award seat available over the next 12 months.

3) Book flight, using less SQ points than you would've used QF points for the same route.

:)

Hi Wafiliron
what SQ CCdo you recommend. ?

HHi about $ 500 k with about $ 200k through Amex

OK.

You spend enough that you should get a Citi Select (Visa) as your primary, and perhaps only, card, despite the hefty annual fee ($700 IIRC).

If a significant chunk of the Amex spend is at supermarkets and/or petrol stations, then supplement that with an Amex Platinum Edge. If not, you're in a bit of a grey area as to whether an Amex card to supplement the Select is worth it or not. In the latter case, a Westpac Altitude Platinum card may or may not be worth it for an extra 0.17 SQ points per dollar over Select - you will need to decide if it's worth the extra annual fee and hassle of switching between cards where applicable.

Citi Signature or Select and Westpac Platinum Plus Altitude Amex all allow points warehousing so you can accumulate and avoid 3 year expiry. I also have a Westpac Platinum Kris Flyer Amex for direct points earning.
Kris Flyer points redemptions are easy compared with Qantas for international flights but be aware of the high redemption charges that make it not worthwhile to redeem for economy flights. Always look first in the Saver section when redeeming.
Taxes can build a better flying experience internationally.
On our around the world flights we took BA in first and QF in Classic to get home from London to Singapore in first.
I do prefer using Visa but Amex is there as 2 back ups.
Even if you keep Australia running for a few milliseconds you are keeping Australia out of bankruptcy.
No one ever says thank you so make up your own plans on taxes.

you guys have a tax bill of 500k? wtf geez
Those in business have advantage.

For every $100K in GST inclusive sales, there's GST payable of $9K - this method can be used for such, earning a minimum of 9K rewards points.

That is before one considers income/company taxes, excise and other levies.

Cove,

Any reason you have both the Westpac Platinum KF and the Westpac Platinum Altitude Plus when both earn at the same rate on KF? Is it because one is for the Mrs? Would have thought that the Altitude Plus would be better suited?

Cheers

So to find the right card for me..., going to put some effort into this but any help from guru's in here appreciated...

BTW, my CC spend is approx $80k-$100k (but ideally I will put some still through QFF just for domestic upgrades etc) Needs to earn points on ATO payments, my reportable taxable income is less than $100k

So what's the right card for me...? Anyone...?

If you pay tax in advance and at the end of the financial year are in credit does the ATO pay the credit back into your nominated bank account ?

There is safety having some additional redundancy at very modest
annual expense.
If one door closes it is not a big problem.@

How much of that $80-$100k can you put through Amex at no/reasonable surcharge?

I am thinking a Citi Visa card but I have not read what Citibank have done for Kris points when they stopped selling the popular Gold card.

My thinking too, but he's definitely going to need two cards if he wants SQ and QF earning options, and a WOW EDR + a Platinum Edge may be more suitable for the SQ side of things if he has enough Amex spend on petrol / supermarkets.
