ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

OK.

You spend enough that you should get a Citi Select (Visa) as your primary, and perhaps only, card, despite the hefty annual fee ($700 IIRC).

If a significant chunk of the Amex spend is at supermarkets and/or petrol stations, then supplement that with an Amex Platinum Edge. If not, you're in a bit of a grey area as to whether an Amex card to supplement the Select is worth it or not. In the latter case, a Westpac Altitude Platinum card may or may not be worth it for an extra 0.17 SQ points per dollar over Select - you will need to decide if it's worth the extra annual fee and hassle of switching between cards where applicable.

Thanks
i currently have a QANTAS AMEX PLATINUM and a Fee Free For Life Citibank Signature

I am thinking a Citi Visa card but I have not read what Citibank have done for Kris points when they stopped selling the popular Gold card.

Mods, if this you consider this OT then please move accordingly...

what's the conversion rate of Citi platnium / Citi signature to KF...? and I assume these can be warehoused and transferred when needed...?

Also is the additional cost of the Signature card ($395) over the plat card ($199) really worth the additional 0.25 Citi rewards point per dollar...?

My suggestions are in the post you replied to?

If you want to earn some QF points too that may change the equation somewhat, but probably not by much - probably just ditch my recommendation for potentially getting a Platinum Edge and keep the Qantas Platinum Amex instead. It does depend on what split of QF and SQ points you'd like to earn, though.

With regards to your fee-free-for-life Signature, despite this being fee-free, with your spend I'd still upgrade to Select. The $700/year annual fee will net you approx 165,000/year extra SQ points (assuming you put your whole $500k Visa/MC spend through this card), which are worth way more than $700. Again, that equation may change if you want significantly more QF than SQ though.

Aye - mods, what he said :)

3 CitiRewards points = 2 SQ points for all Citibank cards which earn CitiRewards points. So, effectively Platinum is 0.83 SQ pts per $1 spent, Signature is 1pt per $1 and Select 1.33pts per $1.

Yes.

YMMV depending upon your annual spend and how much you value SQ points at. At your ~$100k/year spend, if you put it all through this one card then you'd earn an extra ~16,666 SQ points per year with Signature over Platinum. That's about 20-25% of a one-way J to Europe, which "on paper" is worth more than the $200/year fee difference - but everyone values points differently, so again, YMMV :)

Finally, if you can answer my previous question about how much of your annual spend you can put through Amex with no surcharge, that will help with specific recommendations. And an additional question: approx how much of your annual spend would be at supermarkets or petrol stations?

Approx $60k, but this would include ATO payments

Supermarket & fuel is all done on a discounted wish card, these can be purchased on a card other than Amex, if there were more points on offer by shopping direct at the supermarket, forgoing the 5% discount might be feasible....

Thanks for your help, might just jump on the plat card to dip my feet in the KF pond....sorry for going OT, this will be my last post in this thread on this "off"topic thanks mods ;)

Anyone tell me when you receive your annual pay tax statement how long you get to pay?
I have family member that gave me tax info to pay, but not the date need to be paid by? They cannot locate original statement.
They gave it to me 3rd Feb....I'm thinking I have until 28th Feb to pay????
Worth ME giving a call to Tax office with Tax number to get info or can you get statement info on ATO website?
In between cards and WS idea reason for not paying yet.

Doesn't it vary according to the date (which is determined by when it is assessed.) It is different to BAS timing.

From my experience it varies, I think it has something to do with the amount to be paid, I have been given 30 days for small payments and ~6 months for large payments...

I suggest that you call them

Well they were useless I have the PRN number, but they want the tax file number....mmmmm
Paranoid that enquiry will put alert on them.
Looks like will have to pay the old credit card :(

So why not just pay it? You have the PRN and the $ amount, does the date matter?

For small amounts (under $100K or so), the ATO tends to be pretty lenient.

Pay by that date and you family member would likely be fine.

[-]Do you have the EFT code or PRN for the tax you are paying?[/-]

I agree, since you have the PRN, jut pay it when you intend to.

So does this mean around end of June, everyone just pays massive amounts of money so that they can get points and get a refund from the tax man? he he

Just an update, contacted the accountant and they went into the "system" and retrieved the bill\amount owing.
They said it is due in March.
Emailed me the bill....But it has no PRN number just a EFT code that is different?
Also the amount due and the date are written on the bill not typed?

Wash your mouth with soap' ,,,,,,.L......,!

Surely no one does that !

Why do you think the Insurance Companies pulled out of the AMEX PROMOS .?
some people paid to much in error and their audit systems refunded the money overpaid without claw back of points

The Qantas American Express Discovery Card seemingly offers 1 QFF point per $1 spent, including on payments to ATO.

Am I mistaken? What is the catch?

No catch.
Even their Gold $0 fee card is allowed.
All cards offer payments to ATO!

Interesting.

So here I am spending $700k a quarter to the ATO, earning half a point with my business platinum. When I can go get another card for free and earn a whole point instead?

Sigh.
