Australia v India Test Series: General Discussion

At least we got one wicket but at 1/120 it looks ominous unless the pitch goes south as they were all predicting. Rather road-like now. People blaming Maxwell for not getting 200 and putting India away.
Now it's a road not when we were batting?

The problem for us again is it was 4 for next to nothing again and could have been 5 for next to nothing as India missed a review that would have been given out. Again only 2 batsmen contribute. Pick any 2 batsmen including Smith to contribute. No consistency.

We stand at 1-4 from 8 attempts when we have scored 400+ in first innings in India. At this stage looks like we be batting last on this pitch and wouldn't want India too far in front with us defending.

Nothing like being positive. Why do you believe we will be batting last? India would have to score 5-600 for that to happen.

Positive? We must be following different matches? Apart from coughmins we don't look like taking a wicket and India have thrown 2 away at 3-260. What was Vijay thinking? And Kohli. Well Kohli is Kohli. Everyone else has looked confortable.

I don't need to be one eyed when I follow cricket. Call it as I see it and I am not always an accurate judge.

I'm actually enjoying watching the game. Good test cricket.

But you didn't say. So why will we be batting last?

The only way AUST will be batting last is if India push past 600 and we get rolled on a deteriorating pitch for less than 150.

Only been able to watch the last 20 overs. India finish 6/360. Great first two partnerships but then Australia came back in the back half of the day. coughmins 4/59 so hope he can finish the innings tomorrow.

Great innings by Pujara - batting all day, was disciplined and patient. Bet some will be loving the ice baths tonight

Great test match so far. Pujara's innings very classy. Well done. Good evenly poised match.

That was a very solid bowling performance today. Plenty of the heart that England lacked towards the end of their 0-4 series defeat.

Yes the big thing was Aus didn't let India score easily and get past our total yesterday. Then they'd be putting the pressure on far too early. Even if they bat on and overtake us a lot of time will be taken out of the game. This is the first Test that looks like it could go the distance. The big 'if' is whether Australia can hold a first innings lead and not collapse in the second dig. But will the pitch play a role?

What India did with their last four wickets against England:

127, 92, 74, 213, 324, 143*

So I'm going to say Australia have done well if they end up with a lead or a narrow deficit.

We won't be batting last now. Our bowlers looked tired before tea but came back well for excellent last session.

Evenly balanced game.

I'm "rooting" for Postman Pat to "get a Michele" as Clarkey said yesterday! :) :)

Captain Smith seems to have adopted the tactics of Captain Cook.

Time for Warner or someone else to have a try.

India going for quick runs. Not sure I understand the strategy. They don't have a big enough lead yet? Bat out the day with a lead of 150+ and make Australia bat last on the 5th day would have been a better strategy?

What a dramatic turnaround.
Huge turnaround. Australia will be batting last. Miracle needed.

Don't understand Cricinfo. Australian bowlers toiled hard all day on a pitch offering little assistance to bowlers yet could not take the 4 wickets needed to wrap up Indian tail. Then India takes 2 wickets in 8 overs.

I'm a fan of Maxwell but why did we go into match with just 4 bowlers and the 2 quicks bowling 83 overs between them? At least Lyon got a consolation wicket.

It's probably worth factoring in that batsman are likely to be tired after 210 overs in the field. And Smith was on the field for all but the first ten overs of the first innings as well.

Really good performance by India, and it's been a very decent performance by Australia as well. And great cricket to watch.
