Australia v India Test Series: General Discussion

Shows they have no faith in Jackson Bird? I would think he's acclimatised so would be a better bet than a bowler who's played one first class game in six years and is injury prone. Also Delhi Belly may hit him like Renshaw. Bird would already have had that go through his system you'd think.

Let's hope it works.

Did you see that article about there being three pitches prepared for the next Test and Kohli will pick the one he likes? Wonder if that's true.

Am pretty sure the next Indian tour of Australia will have a few more green tops and fewer roads than last time.

India v Australia: The 2mm that went against David Warner | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

ESPNcricinfo has seen a Hawk-Eye video that removes the batsman from the image, and zooms in on the point of the impact from the top, as they do in tennis. That shows 2mm of the ball in line with the stumps.

"Although it may have appeared on first glance that the impact was slightly outside the line of off stump, in fact there was actually 2mm of the ball inside the outside edge of off stump, thus making the impact 'umpire's call', resulting in the original decision of out remaining," Hawk-Eye said.

It was unfortunate for Warner and Australia that they were done in by such a minute margin, but it was not inaccurate.

So if it was 2mm at the stumps.
What was it at the point of impact on the pads (also judged umpires call)

I think the people who think there was a complete error in terms of the rules perhaps need to understand the rules a little better.

More pitch fun and games for the Third Test apparently. Deck with no bounce. The problem is that it could backfire on India if Aus win the toss. Test could be over in less than three days. But who knows?

Doesn't look good, I really hope it backfires, unfortunately the BCCI has far too much power and things won't change in a hurry.

A friend last night was saying that Australia has always done this as well, doctored pitches that is, we agreed to disagree, they may have, but certainly not to the extent of the indians.

Doctored pitches in Australia? Where? When? Perth was always fast and bouncy so doctoring that would give you a raging turner. Same as Brisbane. Sydney was a turner so vice-versa. Adelaide was thought of as a road but usually got results. I can't think of any pitch that ever kept low on day two or turned square on day one. The MCG was a dodgy deck in the early 80s probably due to AFL but since the drop-in pitches took over it's been more predictable.

When you look at the number of poorly rated pitches in the past few years and see that the vast majority were in India it points to something. True fans don't like this sort of thing - my Indian friends always say they want their team to win on their merits, which they are totally capable of doing.

!
Agree completely

I think doing away with the toss and just giving the visiting team the choice would quickly even up pitches.

Something like this would do wonders to improve IND-AUS tensions:

8.6
Rabada to Williamson, OUT, big appeal for leg-before, and Williamson has been given out by umpire Dharmasena. He calls for DRS, pointing to his back thigh. RTS does not detect a spike. No bat involved. Nice and full, swings back in prodigiously after pitching outside off, beats the inside edge and crashes into the back pad in front of middle. Williamson brought his bat in line, but the ball did too much. TV umpire Oxenford says: "Ball-tracking not available". Bizarre. Williamson has to go. That looked out, however, Huge blow for New Zealand. NZ haven't lost a review, by the way

Smith won the toss so we bat first. Maxwell in for Marsh (M) and coughmins in for Starc as predicted. Stoinis flew there for sightseeing?

Blast, things were going so well. Please, please ditch the Marsh brothers........... sigh!

Strong start to 0-50 but three wickets down now. Warner - usual stupid shot to get caught; Renshaw got to 40-odd, snicked one in front of slip; next ball does it again to make sure they catch it; S Marsh - well I don't need to give any details I guess.
3-93 with Smith and Handscomb in approaching lunch. A good wicket so far but wasted opportunities.

3 wickets down for not much on a very flat track and with only 5 batsmen again. Things are not looking good.

EDIT ... and no Starc now either!!

Despite the pre-match whinging the pitch looks quite good. Good toss to win.

Pity Renshaw lost concentration. He was looking good early.

Good also to see March play up to his potential against Indian spin. At least we only have to agonize through one Marsh now not wade through the Marshes.

Certainly looking like we are wasting the opportunity offered by winning the toss. The old fragile batting is surfacing again.

Looks to me more like the pitches India scored serious runs on against England.

Another century to Smith. Nineteen centuries across 97 innings currently averaging 60+

But the big surprise is Maxwell 74 not out smashing previously high score of 37.
