Australia v India Test Series: General Discussion

Marsh must have incriminating evidence over one of the selectors.

Given only 2 overs to bowl the first innings and now with a duck following little lead in form as a batsman the logic of our selectors seems most odd.

The desire to play an all-rounder seems to have won regardless of whether we currently have anyone good enough and he at present is showing not enough with either bat or ball.

Picking Usman Kwahaja would to me have been much more logical.

At least his brother turned up to play! :)

66 on a very, very dodgy wicket is very good, I for one am glad to see his perseverance given another suspect pitch dished up by the indians, one wonders what they will produce in the next test.

Anyone else notice how parochial the Indian crowds are? Listening to India bat you'd think a six was hit every time a single is scored by the delirious reaction. When an Australian scores a boundary you'd never know for the silence. Not very sporting. I've been attending cricket for forty years and the crowds I've been in (here, SA and UK) have always cheered both sides, obviously a lot more for the home team but still credit where it was due.

We gave Sachin Tendulkar a standing ovation every time he came out to bat at the SCG, each time thinking it would be the last time (post 2000).

Match is well poised. Australia could take it away with another 50 or so runs. Wouldn't want to chase more than about 80 on this surface though.

Well, Day 2 over and Aust still on top. 50 ahead and 4 wickets in hand - still better than I was thinking would have been the score. Renshaw is showing the fightlng Qld spirit and is cementing his position in the side - not bad for a 20 y.o.

I think that Mitchell Marsh's last chance is the second innings and what a time to have to show up! Usman should be getting his gear ready, because I think the first 2 Tests have shown me that batsmen will be more important than all-rounders.

As for the pitch, well don't start me...it's the second not-to-standard Test match wicket. What I am loving is that we are sticking it to them. Bet there will be an internal wrangle in India about the pitches if they lose...should be interesting to see the fur fly.

Hard to see this game lasting very long into day 4. And that's if the Indians score well in their second dig. There is rain around too apparently.

Rain predicted all 3 days? Game not over yet. One partnership is all it takes.

Signed up for a free one month Foxtel trial yesterday for my Telstra TV (free from a Bigpond bundle) so I can watch this and the next test. Will probably cancel at end of the month since apart from cricket (and F1 I suppose) there's nothing else worth it.

Just checked cricinfo and note we ended up all out 276 (Wade got 40, Starc 26 and none of the other bowlers could muster more than 4).

India now 0/11 so trail by 76 curently.

Heading towards lunch in an over and India are 0-35 already. A lot of plays and misses though and a bit of luck. But they may set a nasty target unless they collapse in a heap after lunch.

Win or lose for Australia they've performed way above expectations.

Be very very careful. Way above expectations is an understatement.

Heading towards a tight finish with Australia batting last of a deteriorating pitch. Playing Mitch instead of Usman may well be the difference between winning and losing this test.

Effectivy India have made up deficit for the loss of 1 wicket only. Where's the collapse? Must be round the corner.

Edit make that 2 wickets down and the player who looked comfortable gone.

Kohli will never be a fan of the review system after that. Aussies have got back into it in the last 10 overs but I am becoming pessimistic

LOL. He was not pleased was he.:) Although one can't fault the decision.

I agree with him it's a joke.

Given out on field, remains out. If not given out on field and fielding team reviews then remains not out.

Batsmen must always get benefit of doubt in close decisions but I guess we all see it differently.

My view was it depressed the pad slightly in the frame before contact with the bat - certainly no ability to overturn..

Must also have been very close to hitting outside the line - it looked almost 50℅ on the replay

In any event without the review system he was also out, and it certainly wasn't a howler

--

CricViz now has India at 64℅ win estimating they scored 354 before bowling Australia out by 176 to win by 91 as the most likely outcome

India's win rate dropped to about 32℅ when Kholi got out

Yes I agree and I thought it did actually show, very marginally, that it was pad first, but milliseconds in it. What it did show, and which I agree with, was that there was insufficient clear evidence to absolutely prove either way. In which case the DRC did exactly what it was designed to do. It reverted to the umpire's original decision since there was not clear evidenced to overturn it.

Why is it a joke?

Benefit of doubt is with the on field umpire, not the 3rd umpire.

The on field umpire was not in doubt, he gave it out. If he had any doubt, he would have given not out. That's the way it has been for 100 years.

The 3rd umpire can only overturn a decision if there is NO doubt that the on field umpire got it wrong.

In this case he was given out and there was no clear evidence the on field umpire was wrong. Like it or not, that's the rule and it was correctly applied.

What a great test mach this has been. Just when you think one side is on top with a good session, the other has wrestled it back.

India well on top now and other good session with the bat and it will be all over. You would think 250 will be too many in the 4th innings. But, if Australia bowl well and instigate another collapse keeping the chase to 180-190 they're in with a real shot.
