Australian Cricket Season 2018-2019

I doubt the Indians can complain of a pitch not being up to test standard.
Nine deadly pitches

And a funny story from Pakistan.
Funny yet scary: The pitch making business in Pakistan in the 1950s

And if you want some more on the English view of cricket pitches this is an interesting read.Note in the 50s and 60s I was really a cricket tragic so when the Ashes tests were on in England I would be under the blankets listening to Alan McGilvray on my trusty transistor radio-the first of which I made myself from a book on electronics.Funnily it worked for a couple of years and then they became more commercially available as well as smaller and cheaper.

AND THE WICKETS BEGIN :D

WICKET
Starc to Vihari, OUT, inside edge, loops to midwicket! Australia have their breakthrough. Short of a length on leg stump, looks to tuck it away, the edge loops off the thigh pad and carries all the way to Harris at midwicket
GH Vihari c Harris b Starc 28 (75b 4x4 0x6) SR: 37.33

6/119, needing another 121 to win...

Okay, work with me here. My predictions for the 4th innings score from India.

326 - Australia 1st Innings
283 - India 1st Innings (43 lower)
243 - Australia 1st Innings (40 lower)

From the formed pattern, India would score 206 (37 lower).

That would mean another 78 runs, no chance of that I reckon :):)

Well, Pant may have to try and do it single handedly but i think he'll run out of partners. His average is a respectable 39 but Yadav and Shami both have 11, Sharma 8 (rounded up) and Bumrah 1.

Love it when I trick them into getting out (reverse psychology :D )

Lyon to Pant, OUT, fantastic catch at midwicket! Lyon wins again, and Australia have almost won. Pant came down the pitch, tried to heave this through the leg side, loses his shape and drags it in the air towards midwicket. Handscomb dives full length to his left, that's a ripper of a catch
RR Pant c Handscomb b Lyon 30 (61b 2x4 0x6) SR: 49.18

7/137. Can I hear scales in the background ;)

Sorry it was I who put the kibosh on Pant.
But in the spirit of the season I will share the honours with you QF WP.

I go and get my lunch and look what happens :D

Wicket
Starc to Yadav, OUT, that was coming, pops a short ball back to the bowler! That was a vicious working over from one fast bowler to another. Umesh backing away this time, a short of a length ball hammers into the splice and loops to the on side...Starc has time to get across from his follow through
UT Yadav c & b Starc 2 (23b 0x4 0x6) SR: 8.69

Wicket
coughmins to Sharma, OUT, caught behind! It's one to go. Ishant backing away outside leg, a short-of-a-length delivery, a thin top edge as he tries to carve through the off side
I Sharma c †Paine b coughmins 0 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

55.6
Wicket
coughmins to Bumrah, OUT, there it is! Victory for Australia...Bumrah launches this high in the air, coughmins settles under it in his follow through. Job done
JJ Bumrah c & b coughmins 0 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Now let the celebrations begin...

146 run win. One of the better wins by an Aussie team on home soil in recent memory. The Indians got nowhere near my expected 206. Threw away their wickets this morning, due to the good bowling ;)

8 wickets for Lyon, 5 for Starc. Every bowler contributed - good to see coughmins get the final 2.

Harris averaged 45 in this Test, Finch 37, Khawaja 38, Marsh 25, Handscomb 10, Head 38 and Paine 37.

Can't see the selectors wanting to make any changes for Sydney or Melbourne.

Handscomb out, Who Knows in. Head to have a talking to given the manner of his dismissals. Who Know could be MarshM (gawd help us).

We do not need a 5th bowler though, especially with Head's more then serviceable tweakers - you'd think it has to be Burns given he's been the best performed shield batsmen last year and one of the best this year so far.

There is no one, who hasn't been tried several times, really knocking the door down to get in.

At the end of the day this is not a wicket up to Test standards.
After that it has been downhill. You expect a wicket to deteriorate but this is more than that.
Compared to what we played in the UAE?

Australia played very well on the first day. That won them the match.

Pitches are variable and deteriorate. Often depending on the weather conditions over the 5 days.

At least the Sydney test will be a live one for once.

Ok...I have been following today's cricket ;) Easy to fix the pitches. The home team can ask the curator to prepare whatever pitch they like but the visiting team always gets to choose whether they bat or bowl first - no coin toss needed! That will even things up ;)
