I know it was mentioned by an AFFer on the other cricket thread, but Gillespie sure is getting some rave reviews. Shame he isn’t SA coach. And why isn’t he?

I thought he was Strikers coach ??

Siddons is the Redbacks coach ....

Yes, Gillespie is the strikers coach. That’s who I’m talking about. Siddons - thanks for that, we couldn’t remember. While the strikers are the SA team it’s so full of non SA players I don’t think of them in those terms.

And MarshM is back in for Sydney. Two Marshs in the side. Good to know that normalcy has been restored. :(

I really dont see the M Marsh upside here. We've had no issues taking 10 wickets, and he wont make any more runs than handscomb would.

Last time he came in he bowled around 5 non threatening overs and did nothing with the bat. He looked kind of unfit when he was fielding in the previous test also.

I'm no grand fan of Handscomb and I think the selectors should have cast the net wider. His technique is flawed and he gets away with that at Shield level. At Test level it is exposed. They replace a man who has scored 68 in his last four Test innings with a man who has scored 30 in his last four and has an overall average of 26. Marsh's bowling adds little and Handscomb's fielding is superior. The logic escapes me.

It only makes sense if theyre expecting a road of a pitch and very hot weather. In addition to handscombs fielding, there is also the effect of dropping a player after winning a test.

I had a look at shield scores and ratings and its pretty grim. The only ones with attention grabbing numbers are harris and s marsh who are both already in. Next up is M Wade and i doubt theyll pick him as a specialist batsman. I like burns and renshaw but their numbers aren't compelling.

Joe Burns has averaged 52 over the last 2 shield seasons and is up there in the top few so far this year - his only problem is that his last name isn't Marsh and one of Langers golden childs.

Well I’m as surprised as most here with the Marsh M recall. Thought his time was over as his numbers aren’t fantastic.

Oh well, will be an interested spectator via the TV for the Boxing Day Test later today.

Today in Melbourne there will be a very large group of Indian spectators at the Boxing Day test. Should be good fun with the music.

So, does that mean Australia will be 2 for not much before the game even starts? The Indians will be happy, I'm sure!

It's a joke, Joyce......................................

On a more serious note, I'd like to ask Mr Pushka how all this talk about the Marsh brothers in the press, most of it isn't good, would affect their mental state. They must be aware of all the negativity and also what sort of affect if any would it have on the rest of the team?

Pitch seems decent for batting ....

I VAGUELY recall the players down read the press.

An interesting comment from Kohli today. It’s all in the head....

It’s hardly anything technical,” Kohli said on the eve of the Boxing Day Test when asked about his success in Australian conditions.

“If you’re convinced in your mind that you can do it, your body starts reacting accordingly. It’s all about getting into that frame of mind, as a team, as individuals when we prepare our own skill sets.

“I feel it’s 80 per cent mental and 20 per cent technical when you go to any country away from your conditions to play.

“The team that stays in a good zone for long enough, they end up doing special things. We’re definitely working on that aspect, to stay in that zone and keep playing good quality cricket and be competitive on all days of the Test match.”

The thing is, it's all warranted. If you do not perform at a domestic level after performing so poorly at an international level, the criticism of both them and the selectors is completely warranted - Mitch marsh getting selected for this test match is quite frankly the worst of the lot in recent past, and that is saying something!

Well recall they had an unchanged squad of 13, so it didn’t really matter who else was in the mix....

And that is why it's a joke. It is baffling how you can be so bad, which the statistics show, yet continue to be selected in the squad even when you have done absolutely nothing going back to the domestic level.

But probably the biggest joke in Australian cricket this year has been Mitch Marsh getting the VC badge, when he shouldn't even be in the squad...
