In the end that was a demolition. Thought the match was closer but we pulled away. Here's some thoughts

- Good toss to win and being 0-100 in first innings
- Spinner taking 8 wickets and India go in without spinner
- A tale of 2 tails, Indian tail scored 9 runs in first innings and 2 runs in second innings and our tail scored 34 runs in first innings and 37 runs in second innings

..

Australia played very well on the first day. That won them the match.

Pitches are variable and deteriorate. Often depending on the weather conditions over the 5 days.

At least the Sydney test will be a live one for once.

I agree with your general comment on pitches. It's part of the game. But this one was something else. This started okay, deteriorated, behaved dangerously, deteriorated, played okay and deteriorated gently on the 5th day. I just wonder what would have happened if someone had been injured and there were a couple f incidents very close to that. Luck of the draw and I'd suggest if the Indians had batted first the Border-Gavaskar trophy would already be on its way back to Delhi. I'll be interested to see if there is some improvement in the Melbourne pitch.

I thought it was a win for both teams. Paine deserved a win, and Kohli’s arrogance deserved a loss

Nothing to see here, move along.
Thanks for clearing things up for us BCCI.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India said: “It is ‘assumed’ that Kohli said, ‘I am the best player in the world and you are just a stand-in captain’.
“These claims were based on hearsay and the BCCI would like to bring into notice that no such words were spoken on the field by the Indian captain.”
It added: “The BCCI got a clarification from the team management about the incident and would like to classify the reports as baseless.”

Until the stump mike tape is played back and hopefully shames them all...who's to say that he's just a stand-in? He's doing a good job, has played the sledging a lot better than Kohli and has won the support of a lot of people because of his (lack of) attitude. I was always told "don't get mad, get even"- which is exactly what he has done. It's 1-1 :D

If an Australian captain behaved in India like Kohli has so far in Australia, how do you think the Indian crowd would react?!

But what other captains do has never been our benchmark although I can recall one particularly suss Aus captains call that would have caused a riot if they’d done it in India.

I think this article and video says it all - Australia turning the corner on sledging and the "win at all costs" mentality that pervaded previously.
By performance and behaviour, Paine's men draw their line
A good article.I think when Smith and Warner return that Paine should keep the Captaincy. He has shown good judgement in the role. Will allow those other two to concentrate on their batting.

Warner should never return - don't care how good a player he is or was

I think its nice to make an effort to re-engage with the fanbase, especially the youngsters. A concerted push to change the perception (reality) of aloofness that has been cultivated over the last decade (plus)

Yes, I’d agree with that too. I just hope it doesn’t take over and becomes a distraction because we never seem to be able to achieve a good balance in life these days.

Maybe a better plan might be at the end of the days play all the players go to a different area in the crowd and do it then. Like they do with AFL.

Well it must have been some behind closed doors comments.

I didn’t see any balls from the spinners go grubber or rise steeply.

Some players were skittled by balls that kept low eg Harris & coughmins second innings

As for steepling fast balls, the issue was short pitched bowling at the body, defences of which even for experienced batsmen is difficult so for tailenders impossible.

Kohli got out to the straight one but it’s bounce was normal.
