Well if this comment is a likely outcome of the future, then yes @JohnK :

Sachin Patel: "Stat of the day, since his debut in 2010, Pujara has scored 9 centuries (incl Yesterday) during the first innings of a test in those games India have won 7 and lost 1 (2012 at home to England), ominous signs for the Australia."

or even this story...

Patient Pujara blunts Australia on his way to record books

During his unbeaten 130, Pujara became the first batsman since Geoffrey Boycott in 1970-71 to face 200-plus balls on four occasions in a series in Australia

Ominous signs indeed...

Another interesting stat from cricinfo:

Alan : "What is the highest score by an indian in Australia?" -- That's Tendulkar's 241* at this very venue, followed by Dravid's 233 at Adelaide. Both came during the 2003-04 series

Looks like being another long day in the field:

Lyon to Pujara, FOUR runs, delightful extra cover drive. Walking out to get to the pitch and drives against the turn to pick the gap. 5th Indian to score 150 at the SCG. The marathon continues This is VVS Laxman-esque, terrific as he opened up the off side, getting besides the line to use the room and drive imperiously. This also raises the century stand

I postulate that the Indians will declare with an hour to go in todays' play, as they'll feel confident in bowling the Aussies out twice in 3 days. They'll win by 200+

Wicket
Lyon to Vihari, OUT, the umpire's finger went up no sooner than Lyon belted out an appeal. Vihari attempts a premeditated sweep, seemed to have missed it but well, not really. Just a little flick on the edge of the glove as it hit the arm and lobbed to short leg. Looked good while he was there, will be kicking himself for missing out after doing all the hard work. India lose a review

GH Vihari c Labuschagne b Lyon 42 (96b 5x4 0x6) SR: 43.75

Wicket
Lyon to Pujara, OUT, so he won't get a double century. This is beautiful bowling from Lyon, threw it up, drew him forward, got it to dip and straighten a hint. Pujara was looking to whip this into the leg side but this one didn't spin as much and ended up lobbing back to Lyon, who took a good, low catch. SCG stands up to applaud a superb knock.
CA Pujara c & b Lyon 193 (373b 22x4 0x6) SR: 51.74

He also missed hitting his top score by 13 runs.

I think the game is already lost. They will bat to probably get 500 and then send us in.

Sadly Australian pitches have lost the first day fire. Means you win the toss then bat the other team out of the game on a road.

The game goes on....now drinks in the afternoon session.

131.3
1 run
Lyon to Pant, 1 run, punched down past short mid-on, they jog the single as Pant gets to his half-century

6/429. The pain won't recede anytime soon...

There is no reason whatsoever for India to give us even a sniff of victory.

Of course, a draw is all they need but I think at this point they are playing for a victory. Kohli would like to grind Australia into the dust! 3-1 is better than 2-1. The pitch should be at its best tomorrow so we'll see how well their bowlers do. I suspect very well.

Agree @turtlemichael. My assumptions upthread (early today) are looking good at the moment. It's tea and 6/491. The want to have demoralised (and very tired) batsmen to face their fresh bowlers. They may go into "20/20"mode and clock up to 550, whereby it would be an almost physical impossibility for Australia to score sufficient runs quickly enough to even have India bat again.

More likely is that Australia failed to avoid the follow-on. Their bowlers will be fresh adn would love to win by an innings+. That would be tempting for Kohli to put us back in and bury us.

Even if they got past the follow on mark, India will simply bat through to the end of Day 5, a draw but demoralising for the Ausralian bowlers in particular.

Second Indian bataman to get a century:

Labuschagne to Pant, FOUR runs and he gets there with a boundary, fuller on the stumps, and heaves it towards midwicket, gets a boundary and becomes the first Indian wicketkeeper to get a hundred in Australia

6/510

Actually, I find that part in bold unbelieveable...

Pant century

No real way to comeback from here.

Batting first is one way teams win games as the opposition are pantless after Two days of dripping perspiration and blown away by fatigue

Okay, either Paine has given up, or all his bowlers are out on their feet - Khawaja just had a bowl...in 38 Tests, he's only ever bowled 1 over before today...

Now he just needs to put Head on at the other end and...

Well that happened quickly...

152.1

Khawaja to Jadeja, 2 runs, length outside off, guides it wide of short third man, comes back for the second, and that's 100-run stand between these two. 101 off just 133 balls

This is truly soul destroying:

rakesh: "One of the two should go all out (especially since the part timers are on) before the new ball becomes due in about 7 overs."

Yes, the 3rd new ball is due at 160 overs...not that it will probably make a scintilla of difference to the outcome of the match, but bring it on for some small vestige of hope (that we can bowl them out)....please

and Paine has brought on Head to bowl...I'll leave the rest unsaid. Well Ussie did have 11 scored off his last over...

Jadeja and Pant also have the highest partnership of the Indian innings (curently 125*) , overtaking the partnership of 116 between Pujara and Agarwal
