This is truly awful and sadly paves the way for a full return of Smith and Warner. But what about the bowlers? The selectors have paved the way for their inclusion with their selection choices. And by then people will be saying thank goodness they are back.

They will bat to probably get 500 and then send us in.

They may go into "20/20"mode and clock up to 550

Damn, looks like I have under quoted both of these....

I postulate that the Indians will declare with an hour to go in todays' play, as they'll feel confident in bowling the Aussies out twice in 3 days. They'll win by 200+

That is even looking too low :o

No reason for him to bowl the three fast bowlers who have been bowled into the ground.. Reality says that the only remote possibility is a draw. And that is very remote.

Hazelwood on. What do I know. :)
This innings smacks of desperation. Paine just doesn’t know what to do. Actually, no one does. They just need to be all out. What a sad period for Australian cricket.

Woah, Jadeja has gone ballistic and smacking 4's everywhere (and particularly off coughmins). Now 80 n.o. and looking to emulate his highest score (100* against WI in October). 6/604

Jedaja's highest score v Australia.

All kinds of records could be tumbling here (courtesy of cricinfo - a font of information):

Highest scores by a visiting wicket-keeper in Australia - 169 - AB de Villiers (Perth) Nov 2012 (Pant is now 140*- Rishabh Pant (Sydney) today

The highest partnership for the 7th wicket for India vs Australia is 199 between Pujara & Saha at Ranchi in 2017

Hopefully this one doesn't fall - India's highest score in Australia is the 705 for 7 declared at Sydney in 2004.

Drinks - 6/608. Pant 145* and Jadeja 81. Paine is at pains to point out that there is likely to be further pain after drinks...

Pant smacks Hazlewood and gets his 150:

166.3
4 runs
Hazlewood to Pant, FOUR runs, pulled imperiously in front of square, no one at deep midwicket and Pant raises his 150. This is the second highest score for an India keeper, behind Dhoni's 224

there goes another record...

and another (The highest partnership for the 7th wicket for India vs Australia was 199 between Pujara & Saha at Ranchi back in 2017):

166.5
4 runs
Hazlewood to Pant, FOUR runs, full toss on the pads, whipped behind square to beat fine leg. 200 of the partnership comes up, he's batting now like he would in his colony against young kids. Looked like he was deceived initially as he nearly fell over, but then let his hands-eye coordination take over. Stunning

Well it had to happen:

167.2
Wicket
Lyon to Jadeja, OUT, goes for a heave as he steps out, misses it completely and is bowled. Completely deceived in flight. With that wicket, India have also declared.
RA Jadeja b Lyon 81 (114b 7x4 1x6) SR: 71.05

7/622 decl. Pant still there on 159* (off only 189 balls). Not a bad fillip for his average.

What a mountain to climb for the Aussies just to draw the match...batting 3 days after being out in the field for almost 2

5.10pm Right, here we are. Ten overs left in the day's play. Mohammad Shami will start the proceedings for India. Marcus Harris to face, Usman Khawaja at the other end.

0/58 (I'm hoping beyond hope)

0/5 after the first over from Shami, with a nice 4 from Marcus Harris. But it's the even overs from Bumrah that I am more concerned about.
