Looks like the old tread was from a couple of years ago.

With the World Test Championship Final starting next week followed quickly by the Ashes I thought a new thread.

Is anyone travelling over?

We will be at Days 1-4 of the 2nd test at Lord's and day 1 and 2 of the 3rd Test at Headingly.

I also have 2 spare tickets for Day 4 at Lord's due to a double up in the ballot if anyone AFF members are travelling over. Face value of course.

This should be an interesting series, with possible pre series injuries in the IPL making it even harder to work out who should have the advantage.

I thought Hazlewood was looking like he was not going to be fit and save CA a very difficult decision after not including Neser in the initial squad given his County performances but looks like Hazlewood has been deemed fit for the final.

WTC final start tonight.

With Hazlewood not fit, I am very keen to see how Boland performs in English conditions.

I suspect our batting will still be the potential weak spot. Especially if Warner doesn't have a miracuous return to form.

Thanks for starting the new thread. While I won't be attending in person, I will be following the matches as best I am from home. Enjoy the days at Lords and Headingly. I hope the weather is kind to you and the game.

I am certainly not optimi

I certainly have little hope for Warner to average much more than the 9.5 he recorded in the last Ashes tour of the UK.

well Warner made 43 and got out to a very ordinary ball.....

india probably just on the ascendance at end of Session 1, Day 1

and here's a real whodunnit?

I watched the first session live, and batting looked tough with the red Duke moving a lot in the air and off the pitch. Went to bed about half way through the second session as Head had quickly overtaken Smith in the scoring rate. Checked the situation when I woke up and the only thing to have changed was the number of runs. Smith battled hard and was the rock, giving Head the opportunity to be more aggressive as the pitch and the bowlers became a little more "friendly" through the afternoon.

Good recovery after a shaky start. This is what makes test cricket interesting for me.

Head always plays like this, regardless of how his partner plays. Long term SA player. Finally the selectors worked it out.

yes and rolled onto 163 before they got his "Head" or is it he lost his Head....

great innings by Smith and Head

Good cricket at the Oval. Looking fwd to creaming the POMS for the ashes! But I suspect the selectors will leave out Head to make it fair and bring in a Marsh saviour again.:)
Ah. Thankyou it just clicked. Marsh hasn't been the saviour for Australia all these years but for the competing team. Gotta love Australia's good sportmanship in making for a closer competition.

We don’t need a Marsh now as we have Green.

Btw: stick that in your pipe and smoke it Kohli. 😃

Who makes way for Hazelwood for the first Ashes Test? Some tough calls coming! Mind you, not a bad problem to have.

Oh no!

All-rounder Mitchell Marsh was spotted marking out his runup at the iconic ground for the first Test, suggesting the 32-Test veteran would feature in Andrew McDonald’s first-choice XI for the all-important series.

Yes probably the best for Stark to sit this one out. Will be interesting to see comparison between Boland and Hazelwood. At least there’s no more Marshes.

Very boring wicket preparation so far.

ps: total cough that we have no Kayo coverage so have to watch hr delayed to skip the mindless ads.

Wondering why everyone is wearing black arm bands? just started watching after a concert.
