Australian Cricket Season 2023-2024

Nobody said they were dominating. They are 2-1 up and struggling in this test. Not sure how that precludes them from deserving to win if they manage to get a result at The Oval.

Agree if they win at The Oval then they have won the series properly. But it's likely going to be a case of a series draw overall. If England win the last test after presumably a draw this test but with England in a controlling position today, that the Ashes victory or rather retention, won't be such a great one. The crowd behaviour in the Pavilion was disgraceful but the crowds in general are about the same as what Australians would give back. The toss? I'm not sure it would have made much difference. Just a shame the weather is so bad, it's Manchester after all. Had it played out properly then the last Test would be a cracker.

Re: crowd behaviour. I’ve been to Trent Bridge, Edgbaston, The Oval, Headingley, The Wanderers, Kingsmead, Eden Park and Eden Gardens to watch Australia play. So I’ve got a little bit of experience with crowds at overseas test matches.
In this country I’ve been to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart and Brisbane.
Hand on heart I can comfortably say that English crowds are far more vulgar, antagonistic and vitriolic than any other.
And I’m from English stock.. my father was born and raised in the shadows of Headingley cricket ground, and was a member at Yorkshire for 25 years, so it’s not an anti-British narrative.

Agree. Some don’t seem to support the Australian cricket team for unknown reasons. :)
My reasons are known ...

Each to their own.

I had the pleasure, and it was a pleasure, of sitting right beside the Barmy Army for 4 matches in the world cup in 2007 in the West Indies. Now it may be because by the time that happened the English had already been knocked out of the competition. But the banter was good natured and humorous. I even got on so well with the guy in the very large Union Jack hat that we shared a beer after a match.

Never been to a test against England in England but on home soil some Australians certainly can be a little rude and obnoxious. Maybe because as a nipper we would always sit on The Hill at the SCG and I never felt like moving to an upmarket stand after that.

English praying the weather delay continues and they cling to a draw.

How do you go from dominating a match for 3 days and then losing total control in less than a full session played yesterday? Unbelievable.

But England don't want a draw! That's pointless and gives the Aussies the ashes.

England was prevented from using their pace bowlers yesterday because of the poor light. They had to use their spinners. I have no idea what you are talking about here.

That's just another excuse. If there was any play yesterday they were in danger of losing. Draw is a good result now.

Hindsight is always wonderful and if you're going to discuss decisions they declared early in the first test and too late in this test.

By the way I've been following test cricket since we came to Australia in 1972. I used to stay up all night/morning following Australia. AB was my favourite and Shane Warne was always special and exciting to watch.

Somewhere along the way Waugh, Taylor, Ponting, Clarke and Smith instilled an arrogance and win at all cost mentality that does not belong in professional sport. I'll start following the Aussie cricket team again when they learn humility and stop the stupid sledging.

Sorry but completely disagree. There is no way the English were wanting a draw yesterday. It cost them the Ashes!

Hindsight? Nothing I posted was about hindsight. It was the conditions imposed by the umpires. Seems to me you are the one who is hooked on hindsight with your declaration Comments.

Sledging has been a part of cricket forever. The sledging of the past was very clever. Maybe do some searching for it.

Gotta love a good English summer but on the other hand SCG didn't exactly deliver this year. Hopefully Aussies win the next Test.

I think it was a very cunning tactic for the Australian men's cricket team to portray a sense of incompetency such that the England captain believed his team was best served by batting as long as possible in their first innings to build a score that would cause the Aussies to capitulate very quickly. This very clever tactic caused the England team to diverge from their proven tactic of batting last to pull-off a rapid and unexpected chase.

So perhaps if the England team had stuck with their "bazball" style, and declared with a small lead in the first innings, they may have had time to take the 10 second-innings Aussie wickets and then engage in a slog-fest before the rains came.

Well done Aussie team for encouraging the opposition to change tactics mid-game and out think the unthinkers:p:eek:

I really respect your opinions but not in this case.

Golf is one where personal integrity means more than winning. And yes I do realise Golf may not be considered a sport but that's irrelevant.

There are lots of examples in other sports.

Which is why there was a thing called LIV?

The poms just don’t get it, this article on the bbc site blames all manner of things for the English not winning the ashes.

How low can you go to mention the hair cut incident which the writer attributes to Carey, even though it wasn’t Carey that was involved.

Really, that article should have posted in the humour/satire section of their site, maybe it was and I was sucked in……. :)
