Australian Cricket Season 2023-2024

England now praying for rain? ☔😜
well there was a dropped catch by the 1st slipper Warner
then a really hard "touch" by the 2nd ?Smith
then a one handed keepers catch dropped by A Carey (when last week Bairstow caught that one!)

perish the thought we coulda seen 6/66

well that 3 dropped - is the goals the other team Nigeria have against the Matildas - 15 mins to go

Bit sloppy in the field.
coughmins bowling beautifully

Bad second half-and-a-minute from the Matildas....

Brook had the better of them for a while, but looking much better now, and after he’s gone (together with Ali, Stokes & Bairstow) at 223-7 (as I type). Holding them to 250 or thereabouts would be nice!

Why can’t Ch9 get their act together and have the cricket on the same channel for the whole day? FFS.

Most boring opening session. Most runs were not off the bat.

England managed to go about 25 balls without a dot, just taking easy singles, we were going 25 dots without a run.
A bit perplexing.....similar to some of the ultra defensive tactics when fielding.

Going for the safe draw.

Could come back to bite them. I woke up and checked the score hoping they were a few in front. 100 odd behind with 7 wickets down. :(
Was very surprised to see them have a lead. Here’s hoping Murphy does enough with the ball to be player of the match.

Meanwhile the women‘s team chased down 217 without losing a wicket.

I went to bed when Stark got himself out so now watching recorded last session. Murphy and coughmins did well! Interesting test. Don’t mention the dropped catches!

England now praying for rain? ☔😜
I think it's the other way round for 2nd test in a row?

Record chase needed but 2 days to get there. Should just about get there if they can survive 150 overs and they should just about have enough runs by then.

English praying the weather delay continues and they cling to a draw.

How do you go from dominating a match for 3 days and then losing total control in less than a full session played yesterday? Unbelievable.
Thought you said last match it was England praying for rain?

well well well

first hour and it was kinda done and dusted
(well one could say first ball 4 with an 1 over clearing the 12 run lead)

the time has come for many of our players to "do a Broad"

the insane amount of cash is keeping too many way past their use by date - (seems to be a reality across sports as teams ever age)

the 0nly one under 29 is Murphys law - and he lacks experience - and Marnus and Travis have now turned 29!

the cupboard is well and truly bare as we failed to follow the 2 exits per year strategy that whould turn over the team in 6 / 12 years. (if a player is good enough to play 12 seasons)

we didn't and then we added 30 somethings to squad anyway.....

this is constantly the problem in elite level teams where performance (eventually) diminishes with age in how to balance winning today with winning tomorrow and ensuring you have the best chance to do both (obviously for those in charge today, how much they care about winning tomorrow ?)

@CaptJCool I remember Allan Border playing until he was 39 years old. An absolute legend, gentleman and one of the best we've seen in Australia. A gritty batsman, excellent fielder and could turn his arm over too with an 11 wicket haul in one match.

He was averaging 53+ at one stage and I think he stayed a little too long and you can see his average drop and drop and managed to stay just above 50.

My point is since the early 1990's we've kept cricketers playing way too long into their 30's. Yes many factors such as money, experience and perhaps not much coming through the ranks but they really needed to be blooding players and keep a balance of young and old.

Remember the reference to dads army for the English squad? We'll end up the same and we can't keep relying on one or two to perform.

By the way we've been totally outplayed the past 2 tests. These are the 3 best pace bowlers we have and they keep getting hammered and to be honest I actually seriously think England have been unlucky this series. Rain in first test and no rain in 4th and the result looks totally different.

Definitely true what they say about the team being harder to get out of than to get into.
I’ve been involved at a state level over the years and am very good friends with a current player and there is a lot of politics at play. We are still producing some decent talent but their progression is often stymied or they are held back for one reason or another
