Australian Cricket Season 2023-2024

That was ridiculous. 🤯 🏏
He always bats like that. We could never understand why it took so long for him to be selected. And rarely in Tests. Clearly breaks the 'old trad' rules. Our SA players took far longer to be selected than those from NSW.

Just incredible - recently watched the extended highlights on 9now. Absolute legend! Maybe a few of the top order should see whether a fall off the back of a golf cart might zhoosh up their game a bit, as well? :P

I was watching on the Muse but at 7-91 I went to bed thinking it was all over. When I read this thread I assumed that the comments were about the horrible batting. But what an amazing performance by Maxwell.

Shock, horror, SA won another match outright!
They won several back in, the umm, early '80's. I blame the selectors. They are useless. 😂. They let great players go interstate because they don't offer them contracts. Thankfully a couple of local lads remain loyal.

We did play in the Final a few years back 🤣
Having been involved at the SACA in various roles over the years it’s more of a talent identification and system issue as most of our locals are simply not up to it so we are forced to seek fringe players mainly from NSW. Our Premier cricket is poorly run and of poor standard which doesn’t help as too many clubs have self interest only

1995 when SA last won. The hey days for SA were in the '80's. Hopefully that changes. We do also let talent slip interstate. Multiple times. Fortunately one returned to the fold this year.

2015/16 and 2016/17 was good for us and we even finished top but lost a home final but yes we have been very poor since the 80’s
Over recent years we haven’t lost too much of our local talent. Unfortunately we just don’t produce enough decent cricketers and our elite pathways is pretty ordinary. I just can’t see much changing under this current setup unfortunately. Will just have to keep topping up with fringe interstate players

And then there's the two tier district cricket system in place now. Lots of now, second tier teams with noses out of joint and all because they wouldn't amalgamate. I can't remember his name, he went to Qld maybe? because SA didn't pick him up, he performed exceptionally well and now he's back in SA.

Spencer Johnson?
If so he didn’t get selected for the Strikers so went to QLD but still played Shield here but just wasn’t getting picked and was seriously considering moving to QLD full time.
Good cricketer and glad he stayed

Likely the one. Selectors are a curious bunch both state and international. I tried googling them for SA and can't even find who they are. Clues?

I’ve stepped back the last two years due to work but James Pyke is Chairman of selectors. Jason Gillespie as Coach and Tim Nielsen the High Performance manager make up the 3 man selection panel

Good innings yesterday from Marsh and Steve Smith. India still the best team in the tournament but if the Australians make it past South Africa they might get a bit nervous with the firepower and the form they Aussie’s are building at the moment.

Our bowling worries me greatly. India and South Africa have bowlers who swing the ball early on and create edges whereas our guys are mostly gun barrel straight and we struggle to take early wickets on these pitches.

Gotta PEAK at the right time

Now the reset happens for finals
The earlier result don’t matter a razoo
Interesting concept.

If the last team in any competition (0-26 record in home and away) was allowed to compete in finals they could win 4 games in a row and be crowned champions.

The champion should be the team on top after home and away games or pool games. Not a fan of finals series and Australia does not deserve to be crowned World Cup champion.

We could have Premiers (for the journey of the minor round) and

champions
For the knockout of the Major round

But we don’t
So finishing first is worth nothing if you get knocked out
