Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Swimming pools not included in the list. My local pool is telling everyone that they must wear mask when walking around the facility but can take them off to swim. There was 100% compliance when I was there yesterday. Anyone who turns up without a mask is refused entry but can buy a mask at reception for $2.
Yes, this is the case at our local pool. Not required in the water, but required for entry/exit and wandering around in the facility. The Water Exercise classes are full to bursting, I think partly for this reason.

I’m in the same situation. Not in LGA but work in the city and have been in the office in the last 2 weeks so it seems I’m staying home for a week.
I do wonder how many people this will be affecting - perhaps 500,000 (Edit: population/residents, so adding workers (employees, tradies) - 1 million??, 1.5 million??.)

I was wondering about swimming pools. I guess its covered by the general rule that you need to wear masks while indoor. I'm guessing no masks in the privacy of a shower as well

Mrs SS and the 2 cygnets (fully vaccinated) work in the 4 lockdowned LGAs but we live on the north shore. This means that they are locked down but rather bizzarely I am not. Seems like a loophole or have I misread the rules?

Unsurprising criticism from the AMA if anyone cares to listen to them these days....

AMA says the rules in Sydney are unclear, contact tracers are 2-3 days behind, calls for Greater Sydney lockdown

"The AMA believes the right move is a lockdown of Greater Sydney.

"Our concern with the current announcement is that it is confusing for many people in Sydney.

"Everyone doing the same thing, the same rules for everyone.

"If we do that would get let the government get ahead of the virus and give the contact traces a chance to catch up. They are falling behind this variant.

"Try to avoid months and months of lockdown in Sydney.

"The economic consequences of lockdown are significant but the economic consequences of getting this wrong a catastrophic not just for Sydney but for all of Australia.

"And our belief is that we need everyone in Sydney to do the right thing and stay-at-home in order to stop this virus from taking a hold in Australia."

I thought the explanation from Dr Chant about priorities for contract tracing were very interesting. Using the example of the parliament house positive (I think) she explained how they rate contacts by the likelihood of how infectious the positive case might have been. So someone in contact the morning after the likely infection event is lower [priority than those in contact later that day and in the evening.

It will be interesting to ensure enforcement that's for sure.

But the orders are there to create an enforceable action once another positive didn't follow the rules post-today. Remember NSW is all about voluntary compliance of grown-ups! ;)

I feel its a way of NSW Government/Health not locking down 4-5 million unneccesarily. So a method would be like traffic offences - write the rule that should be followed and then seek penalties after the fact.

“If you live or work in those four local government areas you should not leave your home unless you have to. What this does is make sure that we haven’t missed any chains of community transmission,” said NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Friday.

“Anyone who has worked part-time or permanently in the four hot spots in the past two weeks are subject to stay-at-home orders. It doesn’t matter where you live. If you’ve worked in those four Local Government Areas, you’re subject to the orders,” Ms Berejiklian said.

I wonder for anyone who has worked (but not live at) at one of the 4 LGAs within the last 2 weeks, how many people will be following the strict stay-home orders? Especially now it is school holidays and everyone has tons of things planned already?

I reckon a significant number of people would not follow this order.

That's the intent. However I wonder how many people will actually flout the new health order.

Swimming with a mask might be interesting.

Yawn indeed.

Just another advocacy group, albeit a relatively important one.

Perth Airport has been in the frame, but the WA Govt has been more intent on regional areas.

I think the Feds are of the view if you want Fed money and/or land that it has to be nearish to to major hospital and international capable airport.

I was in Sydney on Friday now back in Melbourne. I wonder if the Vic Government will lock me down too? That's their typical form...

NSW Presser:

Dr Chant just confirmed that the Limo driver is not definitively linked to the Aircrew.

She also stated the genomic strain is only similar to a strain in the USA which is different from the earlier statement that it matched perfectly.

ie Earlier advice: "But it does match perfectly a sequence that's been uploaded from the US so that fits with that plausible hypothesis."

She also confirmed that Limo man being patient zero is still just a hypothesis.

Baulkham Hills case after further 7 day blood testing has been ruled out as a recent case. (This is good news as otherwise it may have meant strain was in circulation earlier).
I listened to her reply when a journalist raised the claim from the Limo driver that he had been sneezed on at a cafe and thats how he caught it. I thought she was being her usual tactful self and instead of saying you are as much of an idiot as he is, she just went through the scientific reasons why their hypothesis was more likely than his - and even offered to talk to Limo driver……

To me the Limo driver's explanation is about as likely as those athletes give when caught taking illegal drugs - someone kissed me, it was in a kebab, it was in my mum's dietary pills, etc.
