Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Very alarmist reporting on The Project tonight about Sydneysiders being confused on the new rules. This certainly isn't my experience.

We got very clear direction from employer re WFH being extended for those based in Sydney CBD office (we have been doing since Wednesday night).

I popped up to my local cafe this arvo to grab a takeaway coffee (ordered from the street via take away window, i didn't enter) and even the barista said to me, "I guess we wont be seeing you dine in over the weekend for your regular brunch since you work in the city", and I said "yep, but will still order it to go!" He recognizes coffee is an essential service for me.

If you followed Melbourne based media during the recent 2 week lockdown every bit of reporting was alarmist. I have said before the biggest problem with mental health is not the restrictions themselves but the doom and gloom that the media portrays. Whatever angle they find it will be of shock, horror and/or alarm.

Just watched Norman Swan also say that the Premier’s press conference was confusing. Mainly because there are cases all over, but only some places ‘locked down’.

ABC and channel 7 was also carrying the confusing rules news story as well. Thousands of comments on their blog and socials about it, clearly some Sydney residents are confused. Personally it’s not that confusing to me but I’ve had to carefully check the details for our business.

Mrs SS and the 2 cygnets (fully vaccinated) work in the 4 lockdowned LGAs but we live on the north shore. This means that they are locked down but rather bizzarely I am not. Seems like a loophole or have I misread the rules?
Not misreading.

My friends live in the Inner West which is not affected LGA. She’s fine as she works outside of CBD but he works in the CBD so he’s under stay at home orders. What’s not clear is if household members of someone under SAHO should do the same. Logic says yes…

Confusion, confusion - some are using their confusion tactic as a prelude to not following the orders/rules....just like some other previous instances of non-compliance (oh I'm confused).
Well, in SA having arrived from Sydney last Friday the person we know does not even require a test. Just the usual check for symptoms etc. However, if that person was able to travel to say Melbourne overnight next week (they cant, it's just an example) when that person then returned to SA, at say 9 days after their return from Sydney, only then would they be required to isolate for 14 days and have three tests because of the Sydney visit. Make sense? Doesnt to me.

For anyone who is still confused (although I think its quite clear), from ABC blog:

If you live in, or have worked in these four LGAs in the past fortnight, you are subject to the new public health orders:
  • City of Sydney
  • Waverley
  • Woollahra
  • Randwick
Until at least 11:59pm on Friday, July 2, anyone who lives or has worked in these LGAs in the past fortnight — either full-time or part-time — can only leave their home for four reasons.

The reasons are:

  • Shopping for food or other essential goods and services
  • Medical care or compassionate needs <--inlcudes getting vaccinated
  • Exercise outdoors in groups of 10 or fewer
  • Essential work, or education, where you cannot work or study from home

More than a million Sydneysiders now in lockdown as NSW struggles to contain COVID-19 outbreak

More than a million people living in Sydney have woken up in lockdown as the city battles to bring the latest COVID-19 outbreak under control.

NSW Health listed a swathe of new close-contact exposure sites overnight, including at Manly on Sydney's northern beaches, Maroubra in the eastern suburbs, and Lakemba and Bankstown in the south west.

With a rapidly growing number of venues visited by infectious individuals, chief health officer Kerry Chant yesterday said lockdown was the only way to stem the spread of the highly infectious Delta strain.

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) says the partial lockdown doesn't go far enough. It is calling for stay-at-home orders to be extended to the entire Sydney basin.

AMA president Omar Khorshid said the current restrictions were confusing for people in the city.

Best of luck Sydney siders, you'll get thru this, no problems.
Focus on family n friends & look at the hospital cases, not the mix of double digit covid cases, ppl with minor symptoms.

4 in hospital I think, great low number!

That actually a high number for NSW, its rarely above 2. But i diagree about focussing on it, we dont need to import anxiety.

Not all following the rules

Noting that we are not required to wear masks outdoors unless its at an organised event, so irrelevent observation. If they are family they also dont need to keep distance, if not they will be fined. Cops are out in force in the east today.

That's true but I would have expected at least some mask-wearing. I couldn't see a single mask in that picture. I live in North Sydney LGA which is not in lockdown and yet on my morning walk at least half the walkers were wearing masks and the mask-wearers were mainly amongst the under 40s.
