Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Gladys is doing everything right, the usual NSW cheer leaders think everything is going fine.
Be prepared to be locked down for months at this rate

I don't think everything is going fine and I don't think Gladys is doing everything right.

Just want to get that on record lest you tar me with that brush.

No, but Gladys is being clear as always.

Everything is not going fine, but lets lay the blame where most of it belongs with the people that are doing the wrong things by going to work with symptoms and having parties and those that were eligible to be vaccinated for months now who still havent bothered.

The restrictions in play will work if people follow them. You need to get the idiots to get on board with the rules not keep stacking extra rules that are just noise.

I criticsed NSW health for taking too long to mandate QR codes in supermarkets (now corrected) and for not have a mass vaccination centre in the city (one is now being opended) and the Sydney Bus routes outsde the inner west for not having individual QRs on each bus (when the 400 Leichhardt and Burwood depot ones have had since Jan).

Too many hear want to blame the government for aboslutely everything but if they introduce health orders that will keep people safe and then some people choose to disregard them, then taht is on those who shose to do the wrong thing. The Premiere and CHO have not been telling people to go out, they have been clear about what people need to do to get numbers down, it now up to the people to do those things (and report those who arent to the cops).

Same. When the errors in contact tracing started (wrong crossroads/crossways) I knew the wheels were falling off inside NSW Health.

I don't think the wheels have fallen off NSW Health. I think they've done a great job, with the usual tolerance for human error. They're still on top of contact tracing and have not needed help from other states.

The issue is clearly the conditions of the lockdown and the enforcement of such. I don't even have a problem with the timing of the lockdown, it's largely starved the virus in the Eastern suburbs where it started. It's all about SW Sydney now which is an entirely different problem.

The Prime Minister can’t take the political hit. There will be some intervention to help sort out NSW.

It’s 5m out of 25m people and will derail the national economy. Victorias lockdown last year took off 2 percent of GDP.
Victoria's population is similar to Sydney - so perhaps only 3% of GDP at stake

t would be great if someone could find out if there was a nightclub and strip club that was open during the first two weeks of lockdown.

Why do you think there were night clubs and strips clubs open during the first week of restrictions? They shouldnt have been as they were ordered to close in 7 LGAs from 25th (announced 24th) and everywhere else in Greater Sydney from 27th (announced on 26th).

My post was clear they were closed, this isnt new information not sure why you are under the impression everything was open. No one here has said they were or should be open.

Isn't food and beverage from a casino allowed - the current updated rules allow it.
  • Casinos, except for selling food or beverages for people to consume off-site and providing accommodation, including allowing food and drinks to be consumed in a person’s room.

So in short, takeaway. You can't just go sit at the bar and order some wings whilst watching State of Origin. Effectively takeaway and room service only.

And this has been the case form the start of the lockdown

My friend works at the airport and was doing her usual mandatory testing. Was told weeks ago by NSW Health to park in a particular spot and has been doing so for weeks and today they received $252 parking fines.

I didn’t mention you at all.
I know, it was a pre-emptive strike just in case... all good!

To be completely serious though, I think most of the NSWers have been quite pragmatic and happy to criticise Gladys and her government when warranted.

I haven't seen #IStandWithGladys trending yet... If anything the right side of politics are probably her harshest critics at the moment. Sky News are going after her big time.

So why point to only a few things must close to confirm why curfew is not required?

You point to four or five things and ignore the other three or four things that could also open at night (but aren't).

You could have originally pointed to all 8 things as being already closed. But no you had to point to 5 things.

(Edit: Lynda's post 22427 at 4:33pm quoted above claims her earlier "post was clear", but seemingly she now goes back to post 22408 and does a major edit at 4:45pm. So this implies her post 22408 wasn't clear because of the implied meaning by not using proper paragraphs. But no acknowledgement of potential fault in her next post at 4:59pm or later. Nothing like "oh sorry I read an earlier post I made and have now worked out why you could have thought the businesses you added were not open but the ones I noted were open. I have edited my earlier post to make it clearer" - probably should have marked which parts were edited if one wanted to be fair about the situation. One has to wonder how many time this type of thing has happened before. Edit over!)

Even without a lockdown, it's near impossible to find a beer after midnight.

Because people going out late night looking for sex was raised a few pages back as one key reason why we need a curfew so I was simply clarifying that those premises are also already closed.

Hope the person from NSW Health who told your friend to park there is willing to write a letter to the council to seek a reversal of the fine or some other fairer resolution eventuates.

When the errors in contact tracing started (wrong crossroads/crossways) I knew the wheels were falling off inside NSW Health.

An error corrected within in a few hours, not over a week like the Woolworths mistake in Melbourne, yet I note you didn't think the wheels were falling off in Victoria.

In todays presser even Dan Andrews said what an excellent job the NSW contract tracers were doing.

Rare mistakes happen, that doesn't mean the entire system is broken.

When some people lie to the contract tracers, cases are notified late. How can any system prevent lies?

I recall a reference to tinder dates. Tinder dates can be guised up as a new intimate partner.....no need to nominate on legitimate sex related and non-sex related businesses.

(Edit: in the next (and fortunately last) post 22441 at 5:14pm on this sub-discussion Lynda states:

i) " i havent nominated any business"

[my response: a typo or autocorrect happened, not even sure why nominated appears, perhaps I thought I typed noted (or meant picked on) ... so this post should mean "You point out late night sex as a key reason for curfew. But you are now saying all night businesses are already closed. So there is no need to pick on 5 legitimate sex related and non-sex related business (and also omitting or not noting the other 3-4 business types that could be open at night) to maintain your point of view that a curfew is not required." Lynda clearly has a "thing" against certain legitimate business types.]

ii) "No idea why you want to argue facts about what is allowed to open ...

[my response: because of the possible implication from Lynda's post 22408 that the ones she noted were new additions to the restrictions. In fact by 4:45pm (the time Lynda edited post 22408) Lynda had some idea why I had the idea that perhaps some things were open prior to the updated restrictions but instead goes on with the charade that she had no potential fault - nothing like "oh sorry I read an earlier post I made and have now worked out why you could have thought the business you added were not open but the ones I noted were open. I have edited my earlier post to make it clear. Sorry for the misunderstanding and Sorry to all the AFF readers on this thread reading this sub-discussion."]

iii) "whilst highlighting those most relevant to the curfew"

[my response: well they are not relevant because all night businesses are already closed prior to the updated restrictions and have nothing to do with "people (during the current lockdown) going out late night looking for sex was raised a few pages back as one key reason why we need a curfew" - Lynda's post 22436]

For the record I put a Haha reaction on post 22441, so as to end the now-pointless discussion, but I am now removing it today. Edit over!)

I don't think the messaging in NSW is strong enough.

Looking at the link to the restrictions posted upthread: Additional restrictions for NSW the first big box says you must stay at home unless you have a reasonable excuse. But the 'reasonable excuse' is not defined. I guess many people will 'choose' to stop reading at that point and come up with their own definition of 'reasonable'.

Further down the page they define 'reasonable'... but it's wide enough to drive a road train through! you can leave home to obtain food, goods or other services... that's just about everything you could think of. No restriction there! Or how about 'take outdoor recreation'. Again - no restriction. Outdoor recreation means bird watching? Star gazing? Fishing? Day on the beach?

In Victoria it was very clear... you cannot leave home unless one of four (later five) reasons. Leaving was for essential services. It was for exercise, not 'recreation'. This was accompanied by curfews and distance limitations. 'No visitors' was very clear, even if those visitors were family.
