I recall a reference to tinder dates. Tinder dates can be guised up as a new intimate partner.....no need to nominate on legitimate sex related and non-sex related businesses.

Nothing to do with Tinder and i havent nominated any business, the restrictions were set by the NSW government.

No idea why you want to argue facts about what is allowed to open, the facts are clear I provided an official link to a complete list of venues, whilst highlighting those most relvent to curfew.

What is most relevant to curfew is private gatherings. Yes...we know these are already not allowed. If you don't think people all over Sydney weren't having at home gatherings last night then....well, not sure what else to say.

I don't think the messaging in NSW is strong enough.

Looking at the link to the restrictions posted upthread: Additional restrictions for NSW the first big box says you must stay at home unless you have a reasonable excuse. But the 'reasonable excuse' is not defined. I guess many people will 'choose' to stop reading at that point and come up with their own definition of 'reasonable'.

Further down the page they define 'reasonable'... but it's wide enough to drive a road train through! you can leave home to obtain food, goods or other services... that's just about everything you could think of. No restriction there! Or how about 'take outdoor recreation'. Again - no restriction. Outdoor recreation means bird watching? Star gazing? Fishing? Day on the beach?

In Victoria it was very clear... you cannot leave home unless one of four (later five) reasons. Leaving was for essential services. It was for exercise, not 'recreation'. This was accompanied by curfews and distance limitations. 'No visitors' was very clear, even if those visitors were family.
Interesting viewpoint.

I'm guessing you are thinking of when contesting a fine in court.

But would it be strong enough for police to enforce on the spot? For enforcement in this covid scenario, Sydney only needs to get people off the streets and staying at home. If they are getting into an argument with Police, wouldn't the scenario be Police: I'm telling you its not allowed - go home" Person "But ...." Police here is your fine.

Not to do with challenging a fine, but the messaging around the seriousness of the stay-at-home requirements. Using fluffy language open to interpretation means people will define the requirements to suit their needs. We saw it happen in Victoria during one of the first outbreaks... people deciding a driving lesson was 'education'. Or deciding that a bush hike, 50km from home, was 'exercise'. Or that getting their car washed was an 'essential' service.

I'm sure you got the message - nothing of relevance is open at night so Sydney doesn't need a curfew. Perhaps NSW Police just needs to do a better job.

You’d better have all of the details sorted for your Tinder date … such as their name, address, mobile number straight off the bat when the officer asks you where you’re going at 11pm. No referring to notes on your phone. If it’s an intimate partner you’d know all this inside out right?

Living in Darlinghurst it’s apparent it’s happening still (more Grindr though)

If a person actually reads the whole document, then its quite explicit in parts, which I think helps NSW Police enforce for example:

Shopping

  • Only 1 person per household may leave their home each day to shop for food or other goods and services.
  • You may take a dependent person with you if that person cannot be left unaccompanied.
  • Go directly to and from the shops to get what you need. Do not spend time looking at other things.

Exercise and outdoor recreation

  • Stay within your local government area or within 10km of your home.
  • You can exercise with 1 other person who is not from your household.
  • If there are more than 2 people in your household, you can go out together for exercise.
  • If you are driving to outdoor exercise and recreation within your local government area or within 10km from your home, you can only share a private vehicle (your car) with other people from your household.

Proof of address

In Greater Sydney including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour, you must carry proof of your address if you are
  • exercising outdoors or have left your home for recreation, or
  • leaving the area of Greater Sydney including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour.
You must show your proof of address if asked by the NSW Police.

...

Visitors to a residence in Greater Sydney

Generally, visiting another person is not a reasonable excuse to leave your home.

You must not allow a person to visit your home, except if it is

  • for work
  • for childcare
  • to give effect to arrangements between parents and children under 18 or their siblings
  • to assist a person to move places of residence
  • to avoid an injury or serious risk of harm
  • because of an emergency
  • to view or inspect property to lease or purchase it.
Socialising isn’t a reasonable excuse to have visitors or leave home.

It seems to be more an explicit document, rather than setting up new rules. There were some rule refinements eg 10km or LGA rule for exercise.

people all over Sydney weren't having at home gatherings last night then

Except they have been happening in the day time too especially since its school holidays. People inclined to breach the gathering rules will still do so even if there is a curfew, they will either chance the drive (they know cops aren't on every street, just like drink drivers do) or walk or start earlier and end later or move them to the day time.

I find it interesting that you attribute no fault to those who you believe are doing the wrong thing.

Curfews might make it easier to police late night encounters... but is going to do nothing to stop daytime events.

NSW Government have been beating around the bush when it comes to this so as not to be accused of racism, but they imply the events are multigenerational including grandparents. This is not just a case of a few under 20s catching up for some drinks late at night.

I wasn't responding to a question. I was responding to a statement that suggested I have no problem with people who are breaking rules.

Latest exposures release shows a lot of geographically new locations

Dr Chant called out southern suburbs (Miranda, Hurstville, Kogarah, Ramsgate) as an emerging area of concern on Friday

City of Sydney (Pyrmont, Glebe) and South West Sydney (Bass Hill, Fairfield, Prestons, Greenacre ) already an areas of concern.

Northern Beaches (Manly) and Wollongong (Fairy Meadow) feature less often but have been exposure sites in those areas before.

Of much greater concern is the frequency of which medical centres and chemists are featuring in exposure sites. This indicates that instead of going to get tested when symptoms arise, people are self medicating at chemists or going to a GP for treatment.

The sad/frustrating thing is that the NSW Government will probably now wait 5 days to see if the updated restrictions and increased Police presence work or not (or whether the higher numbers is a school holidays effect).

Given the NSW Premier's comments to the effect that she would be 'shocked if tomorrow's case report is below 100 cases', bracing for over 100 cases and over 50 not isolating during their infectious period. Its quite possible 200-250 per day will be reached in 5 days time.

As an aside, I heard the NSW Premier has spoken with the PM and Federal Treasurer.

To be fair they said today the last 48 hours has seen a significant difference in compliance.

The Premier & Treasurer are in constant contact with their federal counterparts, they've said that several times.

No it doesnt. It highlights where the police need to concentrate their efforts. It highlights why you cant stretch the definition of a household (i.e. the people who you live with) to extended family. It encourages people to report them.
As my income has taken a hit with the extended lock down maybe a spotters fee may help with any losses I have.
