Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I am not so sure, my neighbour works in Western Sydney and as much as the lock down is a pain if he where to bring it back to the Central Coast it would make things a lot worse.
I'm saying only all but the absolute essential workers would be able to travel between Central Coast & Sydney Metro.

Alternatively the boundary moves north to the Lake Macquarie area but that’s messier than using the Hawkesbury as the boundary.
That's where it is now, Lake Macquarie is part of Greater Newcastle.

Also the Newcastle Pfizer hub is moving from John Hunter to Belmont.

I mean if you put in checkpoints the Hawkesbury is a much better location than further north if you want to limit the spread to regional NSW. The river is a huge natural barrier.

And it’s easy to do. Sydney has probably a dozen roads in and out, a couple of punts and four rail lines. People in the Central Coast and Illawarra will have to work from home or put up with check points but might be worth it to save the regions.

Remembering that the 1994 bushfires closed off Sydney to North, West and South, the only main arterial that remained open was the Hume Hwy. A lot easier, if it got to that, to cut off Sydney than many other cities of a similar size.

My parents went from their place near Gundagai over to my brothers house at Jindabyne for the weekend and were pulled over by police twice on the way over to check they weren’t from Sydney and just outside of Jindabyne was a roadblock and all cars were getting checked by police. Up until a couple of days ago there were still some Sydneysiders heading to the snow. Police have also resumed doing random checks of pubs/restaurants and checking ID’s

What is classed as an essential worker, I know I am now confused as what is and what isn't.
While there’s no decent income support anyone with a job appears to be an essential worker.

The Victorian government went through defining this and it was very limited. I’ll see if I can find the lists.

Edit: here it is

I'm sure you got the message - nothing of relevance is open at night so Sydney doesn't need a curfew. Perhaps NSW Police just needs to do a better job.
YES it does need a curfew. The police do not have unlimited staff to check every car on the road. Fewer people out of their homes means fewer police required to check on them. During Melbourne's second lockdown, with the 5km limit and curfew in place, people who worked in *essential industries* were given letters from their employer confirming their need to be out of their house and outside their zone. If you didn't have a letter (and an ID badge from the relevant employer), your reason for being out late or outside your zone had better be compelling (eg emergency hospital visit).

You must recall the photos posted on socials of empty highways and so on. So much easier to pull up a single car and ask where they are going, than the usual hundreds of cars - how do you choose which car to stop? Easy if there's only one.

There were people pulled over who claimed they were going to Macca's - 40km from home: FINED
There were people gathered in AirBNBs: FINED

A few well-publicised cases and people stop breaking the rules.

Don't they have number plate readers in their cars. After a while it's not much more than harassment.

Deaths won’t but your lockdown may well be longer

I will also bet it wont (as that would need to be >16 weeks).

And suspect that lifting wont be a big bang, but staged by LGA or LHD with Fairfield LGA to be restricted the longest.

Of course other states may lock us out longer than we are locked down.
