Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Watching evening TV in Sydney, it occurred to me that there is zero NSW Gov advertising about restrictions.

Surely this is an oversight?
There's been a lot of direct information via Service NSW etc.

Also I think it falls under the category of public information (like natural disaster warnings etc) that the media is responsible for alerting the public - and they've certainly been doing that.

I'm not sure if scripted TV ads is part of the strategy. Who watches live TV these days anyway? ;)

I know, I know but it does have a place. The Victorians produced ads which told NSW residents about restrictions going to Victoria back in January and they got lots of airtime in Sydney on radio. Surely they can do the same for our own restrictions?

To be fair they said today the last 48 hours has seen a significant difference in compliance.

The Premier & Treasurer are in constant contact with their federal counterparts, they've said that several times.
Let’s see whether numbers improve in respect of covid numbers and isolation while infectious

I didn’t mean to infer the NSW Premier doesn’t talk to Federal counterparts. THere would have been lots of counterpart discussion when Plan B was in play.

It seems a hint of a possibility of a bigger financial announcement

The elderly, without internet ;)

Though yes one would expect they would rely on the news coverage.

I know with my 88 year old father who had no interest in learning computer skills that he relies on watching the 7PM ABC News each evening.

Fully capable of putting ABC news on. My late Gran used that to get her news - and she muted the ads so that wouldn't have helped!

edit: Oh - yes we said the same thing. I said scripted ads not part of the strategy - not news programs - the media is responsible for alerting the public - and they've certainly been doing that.

They need to get the message to those in South West Sydney flouting the rules, based on comments of the Premier and CHO they have been using comunity (non-english) radio to so much of that.

I think NSW and the Cth were trying to prove to the rest of Australia that the NSW was... ummm... 'gold standard', and that lockdowns and other restrictions were not needed. I wonder if NSW's reluctance to go in hard and early was because of this alliance?

‘Gold standard’ was more in reference to the NSW contact tracing which at that point in time before all the VIC upgrades, was the best set up in the country.

But no contact tracing system could keep up with the amount of spread and cases NSW now has. So I think it’s a little unfair to criticise this.

Just noticed an email from my local state member re Covid, I assume these were sent out in all electorates.

And the Service NSW app also sends an email everytime the rules change:

Millions of people in Australia still (not me though :) )

Much better than the link that was being discussed earlier today.

The link earler was additional info with detail never the primary messaging. The radio ads I’ve heard have the simpler messaging too.

Understand that - but whether primary messaging or detailed messaging... the point needs to be upfront and clear. The waffle in the longer link just didn't get the message across in the first few paras... which realistically is about all you should expect the average person to read.

A good article in the Age today detailing why Glady’s approach has learned nothing from the response in Melbourne.

You do know Gladys had nothing to do with the appointment of a military officer to the vaccine rollout! A such can only suggest this weird and irrelevant comment was politically motivated. And no, I’m not a lib supporter but misinformation helps no one in this discussion.

The article is written by Jon Faine, aka the author of the article that said Sydney needed this outbreak to knock it off its perch. It's been panned by people on both sides of politics including the ALP's Tanya Plibersek.

He's too close to the Victorian Government to be providing objective comment.

Cases in Greater Sydney by Post Code by dbRaeven which gives a greater granularity than by LGA.

This graphic clearly demonstrates how widely the cases have been spread across Greater Sydney.

There are 67 cases under investigation (Under investigation cases have their postcode masked) and 4 cases without locations that are not present on this map.

Not much justification to keep Central Coast, Illawarra and Blue Mountains in the same lockdown - should put an additional ring around Metro Sydney so these outer areas can be released sooner (Divide & Conquer strategy).

It's pretty clear the virus won't stay confined to SW Sydney with those numbers of cases.

And it’s easy to do. Sydney has probably a dozen roads in and out, a couple of punts and four rail lines. People in the Central Coast and Illawarra will have to work from home or put up with check points but might be worth it to save the regions.

I am not so sure, my neighbour works in Western Sydney and as much as the lock down is a pain if he where to bring it back to the Central Coast it would make things a lot worse.
