Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Did you know BBQ man was actually a private equity fund head who was checking out the chain for due diligence for acquisition?
Yes. It was very publicised at the time.

Though not sure why that is relevant to what I posted which was that he was part of the 80 % who do not tend to infect others which is a function of how covid 19 works in their body. Most people simply do not tend to be able to infect others easily. Whereas a small % can infect others very easily.

I'm guessing this is applicable around the country but I just noticed the new test and isolate until negative rules.....from NSW exposure websites

Anyone who attended this venue is a casual contact and must get tested and self-isolate until they receive a negative result. If your date of exposure at this venue occurred in last 4 days, you must get another test on day 5 from the date of exposure. Wear a mask around others and limit your movements until you get another negative result. You should continue to monitor for symptoms and if any symptoms occur, get tested again.

Vic is not quite the same, but compared to previous outbreaks the rules are much stricter in that how a site is classified is tighter, and that this tightness can include casual contacts in Tier 1 when in the past it would not. Tier 1 Classifications have been applied more commonly that in the past.

ie Tier 1 Setting

Also at some sites that were Tier 2, an additional later test may be asked of some or all people in that setting. And Tier sites have sometime been increased and especially once it was being found that some Tier 2 contacts who had tested negative were later testing positive (ie Mildura Man from the MCG Site). This has flowed into Tier1 being commonly applied.

Tier1 contacts are meant to test after they start their quarantine, and can only be released from quarantine if they return a negative Day 13 Test. There is no routine Day 5 test, but as they have to complete 14 days anyway it may not achieve much. At some sites where they are concerned about spread within the site (ie apartments) additional tests are done. Plus if people develop symptoms they will also re-test.

The other issue is the knock-on effect for other illnesses
If Covid is rife the ability to deal with other serious illnesses gets impacted (whether due to staff shortage, ICU beds, delays in time-critical procedure)
Examples include keyhole surgery for acute stroke, complex cardiac and abdominal surgery, severe trauma.
That's not to mention more subacute activity that could get delayed (cancer surgery and screening, routine cardiac procedures, mobility-saving orthopaedic surgery)
The public and private health service has up to now been able to deliver all this throughout the Covid period. If daily numbers got to 10x current ,( let alone 100x,) it would struggle

Wow. So the person who flew SYD-BNK was picked up and driven to Qld by the QF Link flight attendant from the other day!

The timeline of this is weird as the flight was 14/7 but earlier this week the onset of her symptoms was reported as 13/7!

May be the person who was meant to be isolating got it off the flight attendant....missed one bullet from work, but got hit by another bullet from your friend.

Edit - apparently the person had a positive on 12/7 (mistakenly reported as negative), so next best guess is maybe flight attendant had symptoms prior to getting covid.

Very sad to hear of the woman in her 30s.

Maybe this will drive home the vaccination message.
The CHO has held to a policy of not releasing much info about individual cases of Covid deaths, so we don't get an immediate sense of vaccination status. But if these two latest cases were in ICU, then we can reasonably assume not vaccinated as apart from one patient over the last few days they have all been unvaccinated.

All new cases: 100% of their time infectious period was in quarantine

Some people are being found positive on Day 13 and 14 testing.

No decision as yet on the restrictions changing on midnight Tuesday. Hopeful that restrictions can be eased though.

7 in hospital, 2 in ICU, 1 on a ventilator

11 cases:
  • 4 Ms Frankie. 3 are patrons - household contact
  • 3 Trinity Grammar- I student, 1 parent
  • 1 Bacchus Marsh Grammar
  • Westage Tunnel - household contact
  • Young and Jacksons - household contact
  • AAMI Park - household contact
LaCrosse Building.

311 residents. 214 already tested.

32 people living on same floor as positive case have tested negative including the household contacts.

Day 13 test for those quarantining:

  • If anyone refuses to do this test, they have to serve an additional 14 day quarantine period.
  • Note that some of quarantine have chosen to not be tested when they commenced quarantine.
    • Also with those in this group it means that all their close contacts have to quarantine for 14 days, whereas a negative test of the initial person can have them released from having to quarantine.
    • In addition if no day 14 day test in this case also means that all close contacts with them also have to do the second 14 day period.

Its not worth releasing lockdown in Victoria yet - probably extend 5 days to Sunday.
