Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Seems fair comment.

ATAGI statement on Sydney:

This would seem to be a true horse and stable door moment. They were instrumental in causing the doubt about the AZ rollout, and have changed their tune now that the bug is pretty much out of control. If they’d only given this advice in time for the vaccines to actually take effect…. It was pure fancy to think that Australia was going to be lucky forever.

One of the problems is that the delta variant does seem to affect young people more frequently than the previous

Suspect that also correlated to which age groups are vaccinated in the UK.
And which age groups are taking most advantage of Boris reducing restrictions

Thirty to forty year olds are just now eligible for second vaccinations as they increased the time between doses.

Is that likely a result of higher vaccination rates in the older age groups? That’s my hypothesizing, not fact
The articles do discuss that but it is felt younger people are more susceptible to delta as well.possibly because initial viral loads are much higher in delta cases than with earlier variants In the Chinese study they say 1000 times more than in the original Wuhan cases.
As well the incidence of younger patients in ICU in this Sydney outbreak is a lot higher than the 2020 Australian outbreaks.

I got the impression Delta was causing higher incidence of ICU for younger age groups.

Do you have any data sources of Melbourne last year v this Sydney outbreak that you are able to share/post?

It seems there is now a "Delta plus" variant.
But the Federal govt will only consider the problem in front of them.

I saw something on Twitter today that I hadn't really put 2+2 together before. Delta variant was so bad that the Australian govt threatened to jail citizens who tried to return from India. Yet, when it breached quarantine in Sydney the PM was cheering on NSW for resisting lockdown. Bit of a disconnect.

Sorry all I know that the younger age group were very uncommon in ICUs or even hospitalisations.
But another piece of evidence on the Delta strain and young people. This time Israel. The over 16s have been able to be vaccinated for some time.On July 4th they announced that 100000 12-16 year olds had now been vaccinated.but here is the age groups having infections with delta.

Yet both Vic, Qld and NSW (BBQ Man) had defeated Delta outbreaks without needing lockdown.
It's almost like there's some sort of... context... that goes beyond hard and fast rules or simple binary responses to outbreaks.

There was undoubtedly some hubris.

Yet both Vic, Qld and NSW (BBQ Man) had defeated Delta outbreaks without needing lockdown.
BBQ man was clearly part of the 80 % who was not that inefectious.

He bred a false sense of security.

There was nothing to defeat for apart from his wife he did not infect one other person.

Yet with limo man...there was actual transmission...and we listened for days about how 'scarily fleeting' it was.

A report from June of this year regarding hospitalisations in the UK
”as of June 14th a total of 806 people had been admitted to hospital.....527 were unvaccinated and only 84 of the 806 had received both doses” the increase in hospital admissions is primarily in the younger age groups

A study from Israel on fully vaccinated people getting Covid and admitted to hospital.Only 6 of 152 patients had no co morbidities.3 of those were admitted to ICU but not ventilated.none died.

The full study.

Did you know BBQ man was actually a private equity fund head who was checking out the chain for due diligence for acquisition?
